Hi All,

Does anyone know if the above HSF can be used in an 1155 set-up. Another bracket kit etc?? The HSF is a superb product and I don't particularly buy a new one if it's not necessary. Have mailed Thermalright but not had a response yet.

Thanks

You need the LGA 1156 Bolt-Thru-Kit, I bought the kit January 2011 to go with my 2500k and its been running brilliant ever since.

Same here, e-mailed them twice recently and still no response. One of OCUKs competitors sells them but they're out of stock and the delivery is overdue by 3 weeks, it makes me wonder if Thermalright has gone down the toilet or something  I nearly ended up buying one from a German site but with delivery it worked out to be nearly £20 so I ended up buying a new cooler for £13.50 as I want to put my new kit together.

Yep, they've been out of stock for ages. I rang them and it was meant to be in earlier this month. It costs only £5 but I wouldn't be able to do an ivybridge build without it unless I bought a new cooler. Seems to be nowhere else to buy this 1156 BTK.

What do people think of the ultra 120 extreme for ivybridge 3570K overclocked, compared to newer coolers, such as phantek? I've been using my 120 for the last 2 and half years and it's been great, but I've never really stretched it.

Bolt it down with M4 screws in watercooling fashion. Preferably using a backplate, but you'll be alright without one.

That is, push M4 screws up from behind the board and spin a nut down to loosely hold it to the board. Ideally with insulating washers between the PCB and the bolt, otherwise rely on the keep-out zone on the board. Then sit the heatsink, with the existing bracket, down on top. The bolts may need to be at a slight angle if the bracket has holes rather than slots, but this is a non-issue. Another four nuts and you're done.

Hello mate,

I used one on a 3770k before I got my h100, and even at 4.6Ghz the temperatures were perfectly in line with what others are getting in the overclock thread.

actually, i have my TRUE on a 1156 machine right now. Could the 1156 kit already be compatible?

Oops, hold the phone, I think i used a s775 kit. My 1156 Asus board must have s775 mounting holes. Oh my memory :)

Some boards do indeed feature both mounting holes. Have a mount kit here that i thought was 1155/6, unfortunately after checking it's an s775 one. Im pretty surprised that Thermalright never released a universal bracket for it. My previous prolimatech mega and current alpenfohn k2 feature holes for all intel sockets on the backplate.

I found the small box for my bolt through kit, and it is definitely s775.

Nevermind, getting a new kit is certainly cheaper than a new cooler, and the TRUE should do a fine job, still an excellent cooler, i think.

Yep, still a very good cooler. I still use one on the i7 930 in my second system. Had a lapped black version in my main i7 920 machine, the prolimatech super mega that i replaced it with offered no increase in cooling capability. Bit of an impulse purchase tbh.
