pretty much anything except an RTS really, everything else is perfectly playable with a controller, even if it's not the optimum for absolute precision in something like an FPS
Single player FPSes are fine but don't waste your time online. Third person action games were built for controllers, thinks like Assassins Creed and Just Cause.
I've just purchased a 360 controller for sole use on F1 2012 as I didn't want the expense of buying a half decent wheel. Has transformed the game for me.
Never really been a big pad user but I finally opened my XB360 controller a few months back, Assassin's Creed series plays great with it.
Tried playing Just Cause 2 and Space Marine however and it was annoying, I kept finding myself putting it down and picking up the mouse for some sections (aiming), then grabbing it again for H2H combat etc.
My son actually uses a 360 pad for all his PC games, most of the time on games like Gears of War and Left 4 Dead 2 he will come out on top of the scoreboard or very close to the top. I on the other hand tried it and got owned hard using a 360 pad online. As for a game, Dark Souls
