*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Just fired up the beta, and had a quick blast.
Seems much more arcadey than the original Planetside was (kinda like how BF3 was compared to BF2). Need to get a proper play on it though to see what I really think.
First thing I did notice was, that the enviroments in this game look fantastic.

I really love this game but I cant help but think the free2play model and the way they will go about it will sink this game in a year or 2. Free2play mmofps is horrible business model. Surely a game purchase is at least necessary to give it a chance.

They just seem to think LoL did it anyone can make lots of ££££ out of this but it wont work like that. I think its only viable for certain genres.

I mean this is SOE we are talking about :(

Actually I think the F2P model they have here is quite good. You can buy XP enhancers which means you level up faster (60% faster I have heard). You can then use the Certs gained from the XP to unlock weapons and upgrades of your choosing or you can buy an upgrade outright with station cash (if you are feeling flush).

Even if you don't spend any real money you can still grind to unlock anything you can buy with cash (except the XP boosters).

TBH I think that works, its a bit like the world of tanks model.

Have you even played it yet?

Play the game first and then make your assumption ;)

Personaly I think thr F2P model suits this game perfectly. And yes, I do currently play the game.

I'm hopefully going to give this a proper play tonight, assuming I get the time that is.

Just out of curiosity what are people's opinions on the Vertical Field of View option.

I set it to 65 degrees but as it's Vertical FoV I'm not sure how that equates to the Horizontal FoV.

65 Degrees verticle fov should translate to around 90 horizontal.

Theres a handy calculator over here.

I'm actually really liking this.

The performance has improved for me greatly since the last patch for me.

Had some pretty epic moments last night, flanking a group of 10 people firing from behind a huge bolder using the infiltrator, and then proceeded to pick off the medics/heavies so our guys could move forward and clear up.

I did find it a bit tricky to know wtf was going on at first, but I seem to have gotten the hang of it now.

How well is this game running now? I got my beta key over the weekend so might check it out. I don't want to play it though if it's just one giant lag fest like GW2.

whats up with the tank fighting then?
Nothings wrong with the vehicle combat at all. Some of the vehs are a bit crappy when compared to other empires, but beta is beta.

Lots of people are complaining about the number of vehicles on the battlefield.

TBH in a game that promotes "intense air, vehicle and infantry combat on an unprecedented scale" what did they expect.

If the enemy has 1-shot snipers, why would I run from base to base when I can be sat in a Tank able to kill that sniper and the other 50 retards who keep trying to run around as a non HA. If they bothered to stop spawning as recons and light assaults and fired a few rockets at the tanks using the HA class, the tank numbers would be thinned.

PS2 is a combined arms teamplay game. Its a massive version of Rock Paper Scissors, Lizard, Spock. People just need to learn to adapt more.

You cant snipe tanks with a recon and you cant cap the points of a Bio-lab in a tank.

The thing that changed the vehicle combat the most for me was integrating main guns and drivers.

In PS1 I saw a LOT more transports, and to be fair there were mutliple options in PS1. What we really need in PS2 are smaller, faster, cheaper transport vehicles. We need the deliverer back for maybe 100-150 mechanised resources.

Now in PS2 as MonkeyBasher says people tend to jump in a tank rather than get transported to the next area, most days I can be sat in a sunderer and I'll get maybe 3 people jump in, everyone else will pull a lightning or tank.

Has anyone tried the Lasher yet?
By all accounts the MCG is ok and the Jackhammer is stupidly powerful.

I'm just hoping my shiny disco balls of death are still as useful as they were in PS1.
