She's not exactly knowledgeable when it comes to these things, bless. But to this does seem like a particularly bad deal:

Gemini JoyTAB 9.7" Tablet, some sort of extended warrnty and/or insurance policy (unsure of the details but likely to be terrible)...

...£347.

It's from a pay weekly shop, which I won't link as it's almost certainly a competitor. There's the same model, new and 'buy it now' on a popular auction site for £149.

I was about to buy her a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire outright for her early Christmas present, too!

What say you?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to £1000 with the interest you get from pay weekly shops

Does she not go to you for advice before she buys stuff like this? That's the responsibility of any techy family member, to stop this stuff from happening!

Anyway make her return and cancel asap, its an awful purchase.

Make her cancel the deal. Do whatever it takes, cheat, lie or steal lol.

There is a 14 day cooling off period and I've told her in no uncertain terms that she needs to send it back. I've just Googled the company and they are a bunch of ****s so they will undoubtedly try every trick in the book to weasel out of it. I only blame her, though. They are actually banned in Ireland and France.

Am I right in thinking that the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are both better than this tablet except for screen size?

Yes, she did. Although I only know the very basics about tablets. I told her all about Android and iPads and told her that the next step would be to pop into a store and compare a 7" screen to a 10" and see which one suited her, then get back to me and I'd show her the best bang-for-buck options.

Next thing I hear is this stunning deal!

Note for the future, ALWAYS give her some model names to go on. Regarding if the Kindle and Nexus are better tablets... well, even a minute of research will answer that kind of question. Stick to the major brand names like Samsung and ASUS and you can't go too far wrong, Google some reviews there is a LOT of info in very quick reach if you do some Googling. All depends on what size she prefers though.

that BRIGHT company are very very tricky to deal with.

get her to take it back NOW! well not now there shut.

A friend of mine bought a telly from them with out reading the small print and a 32"lcd worth about £200 is costing her £1000 over 3 years and it wasnt even new!

Awful deal. Offer to go with her to help her return it. Then offer to buy her one for Christmas. Lots of man points awarded.

Damn, looks like your sister is going to learn an expensive lesson :/

I'd never heard of them before or seen one of their shops. Did she just wander in and was sold by some pushy salesman or is she somewhat bad with money and needed their hire purchase scheme? 30% APR plus their optional(?) service cover is quite a sting.

Along with the cooling off period you mentioned their FAQ says this about the optional service cover:
You can return your product for whatever reason, whenever you want, without penalty, with nothing more to pay. Goods must be undamaged and in good working order and repair.

I doubt it can be that easy!

Go with her, as no doubt they will try and bully her into keeping it.

Take the paperwork and highlight the cooling off period.

Print out those FAQ from their site, and highlight the returns part shown above.
