October 23rd Media Event

I think the retina 13" will be the same as the standard 15". I can't check prices as the store is down but I think that'll be the case.

Much as the old prices used to go (from what I remember)

base 13" < high-end 13" = base 15" < high-end 15" = base 17" < high-end 17"

So under the new model it might be...

base 13" < high-end 13" = base-retina 13" = base 15" < high-end-retina 13" = high-end 15" = base-retina 15" < etc... (confusing myself now)

EDIT: what I'm trying to say is there will be different trade offs (much like either 3G or an extra 16 Gb with the iPads)

If the iPad mini has the same aspect ratio then it will really really bad for watching films.

My Nexus 7 already gives me just about the same movie watching screen size as the full size iPad. (I sold the iPad to get the Nexus partly due to movie watching)

New iPhone 5 might have more viewable area then the iPad mini!

They might make it longer so as to be more in line with the iP5 (this might also happen when the iPad3 is updated next year)

I can see the Mini being of the same aspect ratio as either the Nexus or the iP5, but can't see the "big" iPad going the same way. For me, the main draw of the iPad over 10" Android tablets is the size. It's more like a proper canvas or piece of paper. Android tablets held portrait just look wrong. If the 10" is going to be Apple's content creation tablet, and the 7" their consumption tablet, then different ratios make sense.

If they start having too many different Ratios then apps will break and it won't be as fluid as it has been in the past (admittedly you can't go wrong with a single ratio! haha)

It will be interesting to see how the Mini compares to the Nexus 7. For me the aspect ratio will have to be the same to be tempting. We'll know soon enough....

They've already got two ratios though, and it seems unlikely there's a reason to go above that. One for 7" and under, one for over 7".

Stoked for the iPad mini, just hope it's not gimped to much too reach the Nexus/Kindle Fire audience.
