Thats more expensive than the Core i3, 4Gb ram, 64Gb SSD version of the Acer W700!! (£598 for the Acer W700 i3) which is a lot more powerful than the Atom based tabs

have acer sorted out there build quality yet? there laptops dont last long going by previous experience with them

two screens? why? lol

is it running pro?

I would have thought so, but doesn't say

I don't see why people would get the asus over the surface.

But the biggest announcement I was looking for, didn't realy give me much.
:(

ASUS also announced the Transformer Book, a mixture of the Zenbook and Transformer lines. The details were kept to a minimum, but this Windows 8 hybrid features a detachable screen for those times when you only need a tablet, not full-fledged notebook functionality. The company says the Transformer Book will be available in configurations that include powerful Core i7 processors and high storage capacities.

Although another site has some basic specs and its sounding good.
With the 13” Transformer Book, ASUS is pegging power, at the expense of portability, and the results are intoxicating. The dual-core Core i7 processor flies, seemingly unhindered by thermal or energy limitations. In the tablet itself is a 128GB SSD, with an additional 500GB mechanical drive in the dock. The 1080p 13" display looks great, though the 16:9 form factor gives it an elongated appareance. Connectivity on the tablet itself is limited, but the dock features USB 3.0 and ethernet.

And 16:9 is good, not bad. I don't get why anyone hold tablets in portrait. Ipad is rotation locked in landscape.

An i7 would be nice. Very nice.

Wouldn't mind a 13" screen either! I'm just a little worried about the cost.

Am I right in thinking we'll be getting the surface pro prices this week? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I think I'm still sticking to the Acer W700 after that anouncment. I've had an Acer laptop for years and it's still going strong.

really? like what? the surface pro has 1080p screen, usb 3, i5 or i7 and 120gb ssd??

Clamshell keyboard docks with multiple extra ports and additional battery

More than 128gb of storage

Pen holder (I know this sounds petty but those pens are very easy to loose)

Bigger screen

Multiple usb ports

3g/4g connectivity

NFC

More RAM

It's pretty heavy too, at least a few IB tablets under 900grams

Don't get me wrong, the pro is a very good tablet, and what i'd buy if I had £800+ to spend, but it's certainly nothing special in terms of features.

Only i5

Others have 3G/4g
Keyboard docks with batteries, extra ports, more HDDS etc
Larger screens
.choice of i3/i5/i7
Transformer book, is even meant to have discret graphics in the keyboard attachment

Edit - beaten like a rented mule

whats the release date of that Acer W700?

In the US it's out on the 26th, the UK still hasn't been announced yet :( but hopefully not too long after that. There is a UK site already showing it as a pre-order but only the i3 version

how heavy is the dock/keboard though? the surface pro's keyboard is soo light that u can happily keep it connected to your tablet wherever u go without adding extra weight and size

More than 128gb of storage

that is a good thing indeed. ssd?

Pen holder (I know this sounds petty but those pens are very easy to loose)

none issue IMO.

Bigger screen
= bigger heavily and more power hungry tablet.

Multiple usb ports
A good thing but u can always use a usb hub if u need more connections.

3g/4g connectivity
A none issue for most. who in here doesnt have a smartphone that they can use to browse the net or tether to there tablet?

A none issue IMO. NFC hasnt taken off well yet and it will look daft holding your tablet against a NFC device.

NFC is useful for small devices you can carry in your pocket and be used to touch on a NFC device with ease and convenience. Who will whip out a tablet to touch on a NFC device in public?

Good thing, the more ram the better especially for my needs(photo editing)
