Win8 Tablets

How much of a difference is between a Clovertrail processor and a i3 processor?

also is there much difference between i3 and i5 processor?

Between the i3/i5 and the clovertrail there will be a fairly big difference in performance I would imagine. The Atom (clovertrails) are more akin to the ARM based mobile processors. The i3/i5 are based on the ultrabook processors.

The only differences I could see from the intel site between the i3 and i5 were the fact the i5 has turbo boost to clock the it from its default 1.7Ghz up to 2.6Ghz if needed, where as the i3 doesn't have this feature to overclock itself, it just goes up to 1.8Ghz. Apart from that they're both dual core with Hyperthreading as far as I can tell.

Not exactly an answer to your question but they've got the Surface processor compared to an Atom here:

Hoping the HP Envy X2 makes a solid choice for a Windows 8 tablet.

Wow, looks like rt tablets are pretty resident if you know what your buying. That atom flies. Like to see a comparison to a better arm CPU though.

ms still correct in making arm, as that's what a lot of people will buy and if they don't have an option they won't buy.

Is it looking like there's going to be any tablets with a price/performance that rival the Acer W500?

I'm in the last few days of being able to open a DSR for it, I've got an MSAA Windows 8 32 bit on it.

Those atom's look very nice, how much is the cheapest Clovertrail tablet looking to be?

Doesn't the w500 have the old atom? Edit - it's amd based isn't it.
And w510 have the clover tail.

Other than that I think they're pretty much the same. As are all the w8 tablets, really comes down to things like digitizers for pens, screen size, ports and styling.

They're all similarly priced $499-799 depending on dock and HDD
Basically they all seem to be roughly
$499 for 32Gb
$599 32Gb with dock or 64Gb
$699 64 + dock

Acer 510 for 799 get 64Gb, dock and windows pro.
For the extra hundred might as well buy your own pro upgrade.

Not sure what other tablets are running windows wise.

W510 specs are very nice
Intel atom z2760
32Gb
2Gb ram
9hrs, 18hrs with dock
Micro sd, micro usb, micro hdmi
567gr, 1193gr with dock
8.9mmx??x??, 22mx??x?? With dock
Front camera 2mp 1080p
Back camera 8mp HD 3264 x 2448

The W500 uses a C50, makes quick work of some of the older Atom stuff, even with its pitiful clock.
The Z-60 uses the same IGP.
Also only 250 pounds.

Actually the w510 is only 1.5Ghz clock, no benchmark scores for that.
Bigger is better, that's all I know about benchmarks. What it translates to tablet performance I don't know. As it depends on other things as well like HDD speed. And if the system isnt utilizing CPU then increase speed makes little difference.

For comparison the correct clock speed and i5 chip used in most of the pro tablets

Intel Core i5-3317U @ 1.70GHz 3009

There's also at least one Futjitsu tablet which will feature the amd z-60
But no bench marks on that CPU either, no benchmarks on the i3 either.

benchmarks give a general overview of performance, but by no means is it the be all of end all.

Reading a few reviews, the W500 sounds gash. Trusted Reviews conducted a lengthy review of it, and ignoring the concerns over the OS they highlighted some serious issues. The keyboard dock sounds pretty bad - fragile, doesn't close/open like a laptop, can't adjust screen angle, no trackpad. They criticised the screen (grainy, uneven, bad viewing angles) and battery life (4 hours). Rather than it being a bargain, £250 sounds like the right price for it. Not interested now personally - I'd rather pay more for a decent Clovertrail tablet or low-end Ivy Bridge tablet.

Yeah, at its original price it would be gash, like horrendously bad.
Windows 7 didn't help it either.

I don't use the keyboard dock, I just have a stand and small wifi keyboard.

Don't see any issue with the viewing angles.

Display isn't the best, the Nexus 7 was nicer.

Battery life isn't helped by AMD putting too much voltage through the C-50, I undervolted it by 0.175v.

But I had similar concerns with the keyboard dock, hence I didn't go for it, and to be fair their W510 dock doesn't look vastly improved with the actual dock design.

Looking at the W510, for just the tablet, I'd take it over a Surface.
