Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

And they couldn't do ANYTHING to display that's what it's doing?

I'm doing something different than you.

Are you on black screen with the rotating type circle? "Do not turn pc off" If so that takes a fair while 10s of minutes and several reboots.

is the clean install where it says keep nothing ?
Yes.

I originally installed a fresh install using a USB stick but it doesn't work properly and wouldn't activate due to being a fresh install.

I used a new hard drive so I reinstalled my original drive with Windows 7 on it and the Windows 8 installer and now I've just finished installing Windows 8 using the installer inside Windows 7 and I chose to keep nothing and it activated fine this time.

It creates a Windows.old folder which I presume can be deleted.

Not sure what to do tbh.

Running the RTM on my oldish Laptop with Startisback Beta 3.

Probably see how that performs and then decide whether to update my main desktop. If i do update the desktop. Ill most likely buy the full install i think.

With the upgrade, we have to install a previous windows then upgrade that way, no way of booting from CD?

No rotating circle, just black screen and a mouse pointer I can freely move about. It did it once for awhile and rebooted now been stuck like for a fair while.

I think I figured my problem out. None of you out there have tried the upgrade assistant with Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation have you? Why I expected it to let me upgrade from that, I don't know. LMAO.

I shall go and sit in the corner.

Well this is a fail. Sitting still looking at a pc, hd making some noise but NO user information being displayed. I pretty pitiful.

Well after sorting out my drivers (same as Windows 7 really but had to go hunt for one thing) everything is now set up :)

Only issue I've run into so far is updating apps. Set it off updating them and came back to it and there were loads left but it was doing nothing. Restarted, checked for updates and apparently it managed to update them all before

This is my first time with Windows 8 and I'm really, really struggling to see how this is good on a normal laptop :(
