Are these compatible ?

The only reason I can see to get the MSI board for that particular card is that it colour matches it.

That GFX card will work in all the boards, I trust you have a good PSU?

Here is what I was thinking of getting

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £173.99
Total : £184.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

800 watt PSU, if it is the better of the 2 i will stick with it, unless there is better.
My ram also matches the board just recommended to me by stuie, colour doesn't matter though honestly , just whichever is the best board for around 150 quid

It's hard to pick

UD3H
UP4 TH
UD5H

You cant go wrong with either, if you wanted the option of thunderbolt, then the UP4 TH gives that and the new IR3550 power stages.

Should also mention, if you are doing serious overclocking and lots of trials and fiddling with settings.

Then the UD3H and UD5H have some handy features such as,

Power Button on the PCB
Reset/ClearCMOS button on the PCB
Dual BIOS switch to flip between main and backup BIOS.
Voltage measuring points.

I thought the UD5H was better ? is it an older model ? does it not have them features ?

The UD5H does not have Thunderbolt and the new PowerIRstages.

Only boards with "UP" in the title have those, only boards with "TH" have Thunderbolt.

Do they both have the features you mentioned in the other post ?

thunderbolt.
IR3550 power stages.

See my little extra bit at the bottom of the above post.

The Z77X-UP7 for example has the new power stages (37 of them in total) but as it doesn't have "TH" in its name it doesn't feature Thunderbolt.

That explains about Thunderbolt and the IR3550 chips.

It could also be argued that its finally time to kill-off PCI support and replace that slot with a 1X or 4X PCI-E slot.

How does that affect me down the line ?
After reading the review, I don't know if I will have a need for thunder bolt.

Although I like the IR3550.

will the wifi card which comes with it allow me to use my computer from my bedroom ? (which is 2 stories above the router)

• You quoted the PCI slot comment, do you have any PCI cards then?

• The UP4 TH doesn't include WiFi, that review is of the the UP5 TH which does have it, but you can take the power stage and Thunderbolt part of it and apply it to the UP4 TH.

aww :( and no I don't have a wifi card , I will have to buy one. (I don't currently have any pci devices.)

Which is the best wifi card there is ?
Something with a very strong receiver so I can use the computer from my attic and definately something which doesn't constantly loose its signal...
Doesn't matter if over clockers don't sell it.
if a signal booster is required , I'll get it.

Buy what? a PCI card? don't. Get what ever you want (sound card etc) in PCI-E type.

I have zero experience with other types of WiFi cards, I bought my sister a a USB Wifi netgear thing that works, but her home hub is like 15ft away from the PC.

You say your room is 2 stories above the router, so maybe a Wireless card with lots of big antennas? maybe just get a long network cable and do a direct connection? or even those home hubs that use the houses existing power lines?

I will have to research which works best. (regarding getting the net up in my room)
I wont be buying anything which needs pci unless I need it.

PCI is dying out (or should be), the MSI Mpower for example has no PCI slots.

Hence why I said in that UP5 review, maybe it's time for them to kill it of and place a more useful PCi-E slot in it's place.
