It's really down to the discretion of the secret Santa on what you buy really and what you would deem appropriate. There is a warning in the op about buying things which may noit be appropriate to open in front of family / young people so if you follow that along with any questions you can ask your 'victim' you should be ok.

Mine have been fine both times but I never opened them in front of the family just in case - way too much talk of butt plugs last year.

Yeah, my general consensus with regards to gifts is anything goes so long as it's legal.

Please, please, please don't buy alcohol for the underage members, and if you're uncertain as their age, because your stalking hasn't shown anything up, then I'd just avoid the area.

It's up to you if you open it in front of your family or not, however it's more fun opening it in front of the family. But yeah, as the OP says really, check if the family has kids etc... and give them a heads up if they're going to open something slightly iffy, so that they can at least decide whether to go for it in front of Family and friends or not.
