Hi i'm wanting to build a new PC which i'll use only for gaming and that's it. However i'd like to build my PC rather than buy a fancy new already built gaming PC. So what components or bundle would i buy. Furthermore is it fairly straight forward for a beginner to build a PC also my overall budget is roughly up to £400-£450 more round the £400 mark. Any help would do thanks. :)

Hi GIDEON2K7

Welcome to the forums :)

I am going to move this from the OcUK service section of the forum to the public area as I believe that the forum members could give you some opinions to digest and items to look at.

your budget should easily net you a nice starter system that is game capable.

does your budget include a keyboard and mouse and monitor or do you already have those?

if you want some further assistance outside of the forums, I would suggest calling our sales team as they will be able to assist you in choosing components that are right for you and suit your budget.

enjoy your stay

Rich

This is overbudget however in both specs, I have tried to balance the build using decent parts at good prices. There are cheaper alternatives to some of the parts I've used obviously.

* G850 has a lot of poke for the price. Cheap enough that you can consider "writing it off" to drop in say a 2nd hand i5K, much later and overclock it on the Z77 mobo.
* Case is nice and is tool free for ease of assembly.
* 660 GPU is better than the 7850. It adds CUDA support to help boost your CPU in other software suites (adobe, video editing\encoding etc). You get HDAO lighting (pretty shadows) which i prefer over SSAO, AMD only does SSAO. PhysX for games like Borderlands or Batman etc which make use of it.
* PSU is modular so you only use the cables you need. Keeps internals clean and tidy which improves the case airflow (i.e helps keep things cool)
* This HDD has more cache than Bacon suggestion

If you need an OS it will make any build difficult to do for the budget. You could consider using the developers edition of windows 8 and buy an OS later. Having tried windows 8 you might not like it and prefer windows 7, so think of it as try before you buy.

Hope this helps, I'm sure you'll have questions. We will answer best we can, if you can tell us what you need for the budget it will help us help you :)

P.S Bacon, stop being a noob and take out the extra optical drive, he only needs one ;)

Thanks for replying back.

Well first of all thanks for replying and giving me ideas on what to get and yes if possible i would like the mouse, operating software etc to be included in the budget as it's my first computer and don't want to dive straight into the deep end. Also i don't want un-needed extras which may seem good however i won't need or use. But overall thanks guys i'll take a look and decide when i can :) sorry for not replying straight away as i have been busy.

Gone over the original budget and when you factor in the mouse and keyboard will come t just over £520.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards w/ FARCRY3, Nexuiz & Sleeping Dogs PC Games £134.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £83.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x Intel Pentium G840 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £55.99

Now you could do a few things here.

1. Downgrade the motherboard and keep the change ;)

2. Downgrade the motherboard, upgrade the grahics

3. Spend more money :p

Thanks again.

Ok i only put my budget to £450 max is cause well my friend was telling me about this website and he said he got his PC for £370 minus the keyboard, screen, mouse, speakers etc. He had i3's on his. Would it be possible rather than Pentiums to get better processors, and scrap the extras like screen, mouse, keyboard etc. However i will still need the OS (Windows 7 preferably) Plus i also said £450 max is cause i want spare money for screen, keyboard, mouse etc... Sorry for such a hassle guys it's just this is all new to me and trying to come to terms with it all. A new learning curve. :) If you think i need to rethink everything please don't hesitate and tell me if i might need to alter my needs/wants. Once again Thanks.

Ok never mind complete edit as I forgot the RAM.

Here it is:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte HD 7770 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ FARCRY3 & 20% MOH WarFighter PC Games £99.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £83.99
1 x Intel Pentium G840 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £55.99
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £43.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) £42.98
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £25.99
1 x Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £453.97 (includes shipping : £11.75).

A Pentium is like an i3 without the Hyperthreading and slightly lower clocked. HT does not affect games.

If you can stretch an extra £50 - 60 then your looking at a better GPU and Motherboard. Other than that cant see another easy way to do this spec.

Or you could add some RAM and have a working system. :p

I don`t know when your friend bought his system, what he actually purchased or what special offers were available at the time.
I know it is not easy buying a system for the first time, where you need everything and only have so much to spend. But you need to invest your money wisely, so you don`t have to spend to much when you want to upgrade in the future.
Now you say £450 for the system including an OS because you want spare cash for the rest of your parts, monitor, k&m and possibly speakers. Can I ask how much is your budget for everything. And is the price of the spec that I done with everything included to high?

Another Try.

Ok for once i actually tried to find my own PC set up, however i think i may buy an overclocked bundle rather than buying the processors, memory, cooler and motherboard buy themselves. (Yes i broke out my budget haha) However do i chose the Krypton Z68 600i Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.60GHz DDR3 Overclocked Bundle or the Radon 690a AMD Bulldozer FX-4 4100 3.60GHz @ 4.00GHz DDR3 Overclocked Bundle. I know that many people would chose Intel over AMD however i currently have AMD Processors i think they're pretty good and reliable. Also i put somethings together of my own. If i buy one of those bundles should i get these to build the computer with. Here's my list, didn't know how to import the basket so i'll put down with names.

1:Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050)
2:Aerocool Strike-X 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
3:Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)
4:BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black
5:Samsung SH-118AB/BEBE SATA 18x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM
Thanks once again and sorry for the hassle people ;)

Oh yes also, graphic cards, not very good with knowing which to add so suggestions please, also sound cards.
And if you think i should just buy an already built pc and maybe add things/upgrade it rather than building one, would this be sufficient for good gaming use and good running speed. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-315-OE&groupid=43&catid=2385&subcat=2418

Sorry for asking more questions just making sure i get everything right. :)
