Car manufacturers phase out spare tyres

Don't know how old this article is and if it's common knowledge, but it seems that repair kits are replacing the spare tyre. Their reasoning is that what you might end up paying for a replacement tyre if you fail with the repair kit is compensated by a lighter car giving additional fuel economy. Sure

Its pretty much already happened - none of my more modern cars ( 2007, 2x 2009) have had spares, the kits that come with the cars are largely useless too, diy plug tyoe kits are much better though obviously useless if you have a serious failure

I don't mind not having a full width spare tyre, but imo a get-me-home wheel is essential.

To be honest for the price of things like the AA and RAC etc I don't mind. No way I'm going to change my wheel on the side of a motorway or busy road anyway...

My 2008 Yaris has a spare

It means the already small boot has got even smaller as a result !

I saw a car once going along on two space saver spare wheels.

a) where the hell did he get the second one from

b) how was finding another space saver less effort than getting new tyres

c) how long was he driving on one space saver to get ANOTHER puncture?

Another advantage to running an old car! Got a full size alloy and tyre as a spare in the boot.

Don't think my mates car has a spare tyre. Just an SOS button for if it breaks down

No spare on my 3 series and ive ditched the run flats.

Got a compressor and a can of tyreweld in the boot. Compressor if the puncture isnt too fast, tyre weld if it is fast. If its a big hole its the AA

My 2008 A6 has a full sized alloy spare.
