Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Only the random Youtube streaming slowness here on 100Mb. Strange thing is sometimes it's 480p that's slow so choose 720p and it's fast, or 720 vs 1080 -It's like a load balancing thing where some streams are faster than others regardless of the quality of the stream chosen.

Not a huge bother though as it's quite rare for me.

I'm having constant issues with it, on all quality settings I have to pause the video and come back to it in a minute of two before playing to avoid buffering.

Never had an issue on 50mb

Maybe it is inline with their 18 month doublespeed rollout with the HW upgrades going on around the country. Once they are done the issues may hopefully be resolved?

Hopefully...

Is there not a process of informing CEO office and offcom that we can follow to somehow get the contract cancelled. Mines been ok but if it got like some of those mentioned then I'd be off.

Yes there is, but like any contract, you need to have gone through reasonable channels to try and get the problem sorted before asking to be let out of your contract.

techie came out yeterday, weak signal coming to the house, he then traces the cable to the junction box and finds a car parked blocking (you cant make this crud up) so coming back today at 12 - 4

he said he would book me an app. i rung up and nothing booked... had to demand one today!!

anyone got the best contact details to complain to someone high up? 2 weeks next to no service, 6 months of rubbish

Was meant to get it today but they surveyed yesterday and they need to move something because we have block paving.....2 more weeks of AOL.... *sob*

You sure he didn't arrange a Principal Technician to come to you today? The call centre people would not see anything booked on the system if that was the case

Jesus, no internet since Friday yet again, speaking to Virgin its a fault in the area that should be fixed by 4pm today.

Added to which the resegmentation work is still unfortunately awaiting Planning permission, though it is scheduled to be updated by the end of this week. We'll see..

YouTube also absolutely useless here during the evening or weekend on a 60mb package.

Shame I'm now living so far away from the exchange, else I'd rather be on a half-decent ADSL package at ~10mb and be able to stream YouTube, than a useless Virgin package at 60mb that buffers every 5 seconds.

I think BT Infinity's new advert with them going to a party and no music is due to these YouTube comments about Virgin! ;)

I'm rather regretting my decision to switch from Be to Virgin when I moved last month.
When it's working, it works great. 105Mbs gives me 12.5MB/s downloads, but in the evenings and on weekends, I can't even load a youtube video.

Trying to grab something from Usenet in the evening equals 50KB/s, even when I've not reached my limit to be throttled.

Be may have only given me a 24.5Mb connection, but it was rock solid no matter the day or time.

I've also had more outtages in the last month (2), than I had all of the last year with Be (0).

Bristol is oversubscribed (even though they say it isn't) and the fault has a fix date of late Dec/Early Jan as they are Resegmenting the network.

BS6, BS7 and BS34 are affected by this.

I think because the balance of each node is **** (hence resegmenting the network) they claim that Bristol overall isn't oversubscribed...

I barely get a Skype call going in the evenings atm, going to phone up on Friday and complain.

They are over subscribed in pretty much every part of the country. If they aren't in an area it's only because people can get BT Infinity.

If BT offered better than up to 8meg in my area I'd have left virgin the moment they sent me this ***** superhub.

I doubt it, Bristol has issues due to all the students coming back. Over the holidays the system is perfect, (Full 60Mb during the evenings) barely get 10 at the moment.

I'm in a small town full of old people and can't buffer a YouTube video in 360p till after 1am.

I find it hard to believe there are many areas this terrible company aren't getting every bit of money they can.
