New Build Problem

Hello,

I've just upgraded my setup and when I've tested my new build before putting it into the case there is no activity when I try to turn it on. I have the green standby light in the bottom corner of the motherboard but other than that there is nothing. Last night it did go to the motherboard logo screen but I quickly shut it down when the cables on the stock Intel cooler were blocking the fan.

I have tested the PSU in my old PC and that works fine. I have tried my old RAM in the new motherboard and there is no change. There are no bent pins in the CPU socket. I have a feeling that it is a problem with the motherboard but I wanted some other advise before I sent it back.

My components currently connected are;

Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe
Intel i7 3770k
GeIL Black Dragon 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
BeQuiet Pure Power L7 730W

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Andy

I take it the 4 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboard cables are connected? Have you got some extra thermal paste on you?

Yeah, the motherboard cables are connected properly. I do have some thermal paste somewhere.

I've done a CMOS reset

Would the location of the small blue cap cause this problem? I took it off last night and to be honest I wouldn't know where to put it back

I'll let you know the problem if you promise not to laugh :D

It turns out removing the blue cap does cause problems. I put everything back in the right position and everything seems to be working fine. I should learn not to be tempted with fiddling.

Thanks for the help guys
