Voting Police commissioner on 15th

for any area who doesn't have a true independent it will end up a big old political game of pointing the finger at the gov and then at the previous commissioner.

Having read my candidates. The main parties, (lab, con, lib) talk absolute spin! They say nothing with big words, and so called accolades, however the independent parties, in particular the Independent party, have put concise, accurate plans in their manifesto.
I wasn't planning to vote for this, but I will now just in the hope that my 1 vote will be enough to stop the 3 that talk out of there behinds.

Excited as this is the first time I have been registered to vote over here in AGES and actually get to vote.

No idea who to choose though

Don't we elect politicians to deal with these sort of details?

Oh wait, they're party affiliated? Why? So they're not really proper police commissioners, they're just head of another department and this is all just a vote gaining, headline grabbing load of ********?

Wont be voting.

I personally think that electing police commisioners is a good thing. The police are routinely seen as being above the law, rightly or wrongly, and the whole Andrew Mitchell fiasco demonstrated that they some sordid affair with the media. If they were instead forced to focus on local policing matters by having someone who was locally accountable then perhaps they won't worry about trivial events and instead focus their attention and that of their officers upon concerns of their local populace. People here, and in Motors, moan about the traffic police and the amount of time that they spend trying to catch someone going 80mph in a 70. Sure, it's policing. But is it really necessary or the correct utilisation of police? A police commissioner, elected by the people, will be able to answer that and I suspect he'll draw the same conclusions that the majority here will - no, it's not.

And you seriously think that these newcomers will make the slightest difference? They have no power over the budget, so they have no real power. There's just one person, to replace the several who are currently doing the job, so it's much more likely that they will miss things. They are even more nakedly political than the current committees. And the final hole in your theory is: the Police forces are almost totally against them: unlike you they understand that this means less public control, and not more.

Vote purely on the likelihood of the candidates name appearing as a Police Commissioner in a DC/Marvel Comic.

:p

My labour candidate says:

I laughed at that too. Yes, you're a Mum, that doesn't make you good enough to be the Police Commissioner.

I've found fault in all of them. I'm a bit disappointed to see serving as a police officer was not a requirement for the job...

Labour woman.

“I was born and still live in Dyfed Powys and have an economic development backround. I have solid experience running public services and have represented local people as a Welsh Assembly Member and government minister. Our communities will get my full and strong support whether they are rural or urban. ”

Tory man.

"I want to cut crime from Welshpool to Milford Haven. I'll place policing at the heart of a strategy to cut crime including expertise from voluntary groups and wider communities. I grew up on a farm in Radnorshire, before serving in the Army in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq. If elected, I'll work with the police to make Dyfed Powys the UK's most effective rural force."

Our Labour one hasn't bothered to put up a profile on her page. Shame, would have been entertaining read.

Had my polling card through today.

I have seen a few adverts about crime and my chance to vote.

I have no clue on who the candidates are and what they stand for. I assume if I go to vote I will just be picking a name at random.

What the hell is this about, and where and how am I meant to find out who to vote for?

The link someone gave earlier in the thread was on the voting card, you didn't pay enough attention :p

No elections here for the Met.

Ok (?).

OMG.. I can't believe we've been given the choice on this! Good times.

It's a tough decision, collie or bulldog for the chewing of the card!

I think there was one crime in my village in last 10 years and it was creating a disturbance lol

Just another position for someone to stick their snout into the taxpayer trough on take as much as they can. I thought the conservatives were trying to cut waste?!?!

I am usually clued up on these things and always vote - not this time. I reckon voter turnout will be terrible, even worse than usual, say 15-20%.

I have 6 to choose from. Get me.

My Indie:

“I finished my first degree over 20 years ago, completed my MSc IT postgraduate degree 12 years ago and became a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner in 2004. I have worked in various sectors, as a front office cashier, teacher, insurance marketing executive, banker, software tester, IT Capacity Planner, Project Manager also served as a Charity Trustee. I am a results-driven person that is very passionate about volunteering and serving the community. ICT is crucial in fighting crime and ensuring we live in a safer community. If elected, I will involve and represent all the people impartially.I am not affiliated to any political party. Keep political party politics out of policing to maintain the integrity of the Police service and truly empower the people. ”

I don't know why they even have political affiliations.

Also, every one of my candidates have provided badly written blurbs. Worrying!

The only candidate in my area to post some literature through the door is from UKIP, ew. You can probably imagine how that skim read went.
