Which age do you Wish you Were Born in?

Until the last 150 years or so you probably wouldn't be able to even read or write. Odds are you'd be a slave, a farmer, or work in a factory for 14 hours a day and die before 40. Even before 1900 you'd be lucky to live to 50 in one of the then 'Great Powers'.

I'd like to be born in 1974.

Well I was born at the of 1973 which I wouldn't change, but 1974 would be an OK compromise I guess. ;)

I'm glad I experience life without much technology like mobile phones and internet but at the same time I'm glad I experienced them from the beginning and have made a living out of it. Dance music in the 90's was fantastic and we reached a time where visting anywhere in the world is not out of the reach of the normal person. Cars were real cars that you drove yourself and the had feeling rather than the electronic appliances most people have these days.

So I'd really not change the year I was born to anywhere in the past. If there is some fantastic utopia at some point in the future I'm open to changing my mind though. :p

I feel exactly the same way (and I was born in 74, just being a **** to Eames as he was being a **** to me in another thread :p). Being born into the 70s is a good balance a childhood not clouded by too much tech, with an emphasis on itchy jumpers and outdoor play, but the tech and progress was there by the time we needed it.

I only knew one person at university who had a mobile and I was one of the few people with a PC. I was there for the start of some amazing musical movements and all that came with it (early days of dnb was wow as was the manchester scene way before it).

I would like to see further into the future but I think on balance a great time to be born.

I'd like to live in the future when time machines become commonplace and I can be modified to live for centuries, then I could visit any year I like aha.

One side of the family was pretty wealthy about 120 years ago so would be interesting growing up around then.

However the downsides of 2 world wars and horrible diseases make me rather glad to live in this time.

Issue with going into the future is that it won't necessarily be better.

I've always imagined that I'd like to have been born in a different time. Sometimes Medieval, usually the future (i.e. space travel etc), but then I look at the people I've known in my life and the people I know now. Some experiences I would never change, and my heart feels heavy thinking about the possibility of never meeting/experiencing those things, or someone else doing it.

Can't think of anywhen in the past I'd like to be born. Would prefer to be born a few hundred years (or more) in the future, assuming the people of the Earth haven't killed us all by then over their religious/other wars.

The same age my great grandmother was born. 1903. She died in 1994 and the stories she used to tell me rings of a more simple time. And if you were lucky enough to have money, it was the age of style and decadence. If given the choice to cut my life short by 10 years, in return for an evening of style and hobnobbing in the 40's while Sinatra and Dean Martin do their thing in the background, I'd make the deal.

I reckon being born in 1958 was perfect.
My Dad played in bands so I can remember 50s/60s music being played all the time.
I was old enough to enjoy the 1966 World Cup.
I sat with my Grandad who followed Apollo 11 all the way to the Moon with his Ham Radio system while we also watched it on TV.
I gigged with my Dad when I was 12 in 1970.
I got into Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Deep Puple in 1970.
I had a proper Raleigh Chopper with knacker cracker.
I had a calculator to replace a slide rule and I could write BOOBS on it.
I used to sit in Radio Rentals on a Saturday afternoon watching colour TV on BBC2.
I had a digital watch.
I had a Pong machine.
I had a Sinclair ZX80 > 81 > ZX Spectrum > Commodore 64 > BBC Micro > Atari ST - Commodore Amiga and so on.
I was there for the start of Metallica and Slayer and ...........
I spent a lot of time on Bulletin Boards and when the Internet came out I didn't think it would take off :D
I could go on but I really think I've been fortunate to live through all the major technology changes and hopefully I've got a lot more to come.
Sadly I don't think I will ever see a hover board.

Good old western cowboy time for me :D

Also sometime in the future where space travel and being able to visit other planets is possible :)

The Age of Cadfael.

or 932 AD so I could watch Monty Python and the holy grail's inspiration.
