Windows 8 The Verdicts ?

Interesting question. I haven't used the mail app as I use Thunderbird which worked fine after the upgrade. I can't see a way of seeing older mail. Maybe the developers though we deal with mail as it arrives, moving it into other folders if we want to keep it.

Perhaps. It's not a massive deal, it's just for viewing saved emails I've put in different folders. I can always just go to outlook.com for that.

Another thing which I just can't figure out; under the games menu I want to sign in with my xbox live account which is different from my main windows account. How on earth do I do this??

For mail, you should just be able to change this option in settings (via the settings charm)

It's set to two weeks by default that's all.

I had a look through all the settings options in the charms menu and couldn't find anything regarding mail.

Still can't figure out how to sign into my live account separate from my main account. I fear it's no possible. :(

Charms are context specific, you need to go into the Metro mail tile then click "Win C" to bring up the charm, then click on "Settings"

And when you're in the settings menu for mail, click account and you'll see your account email listed, click this (I missed this part for ages and went around in circles!) then you'll see the option to change, one of them is 'forever' basically all emails on that account, did this last night :)

Not true, im sitting on Win 8 Pro and have the same features and more as I did in Win 7 such as side by side and fane splitting into 2 separate windows.

Would that not be using the desktop mode IE executable though, and not the Modern IE executable?

I like the speed of Windows 8 but it has a crazy idea of dumping my SSD harddrive every time I leave it alone for more than 15mins. Also it looses the drive.

Reading up seems to point the drive at fault but I never, ever had the problem with windows 7 in the 2yrs of using the SSD.

I've hardly used metro, and to be honest I'm probably not going to use it much anyway. Wish they had left the start button in place with a metro button in the corner like you get with classic shell.

This is still really bugging me. When I go to settings in the charm menu and try to change accounts it won't let me click on the one I want to log in with.

Also, I keep getting a notification box pop up in the bottom right hand corner every 15 seconds or so. It flashes up too quickly for me to see what it is. Any ideas what this may be?

Have you tried changing the hard drive settings under Power Management not to turn off when idle?

I have problems with youtube in firefox since installing windows 8.

Videos just cause firefox to become unresponsive frequently :(

I'm reinstalling Windows 7 as we speak. Windows 8 is appallingly bad. Tdr ATI crashes, opening Powerdirector 10 causes bsod, creative tactic alpha 3d drivers don't work. It's like the bad old days of my 1st Vista install. Glad I only bought W8 for £15.

So have been using Win 8 for a week now and on the whole quite impressed and will keep it as my OS of choice on the desktop. It's snappy and fast and easily corks ass well in terms as performance as the more mature Windows 7.

There are some minor annoyances in that some of the apps you can't share content to social network which is really handy in some android apps like Pulse. On the issue of apps, 'The App Store' needs some of my favourite andriod apps in there but I am sure they will come with time

Upto now my fave App is Dark RSS, really just delivers the good content I want

Have you considered the problem might actually be ATI, Cyberlink and Creative?

upgraded today on my main pc, have been using windows 8 rp on my second pc for some time now so was able to test my apps would work ok, but its nice to get a play with the multimonitor support etc. Am really happy I much prefer this to 7, don't miss the start menu one bit I don't think I actually really ever used it, the new start screen is easier to keep tidy and I will actually use it.
