I recently upgraded to an MSI Mpower Z77 with i5-3570k and 8gb Corsair Vengeance, and paired with my already MSI GTX 560 ti, however I've noticed my system is only showing 7.87gb usable memory

I thought this is only the case when you are using the on-board video

That is system memory, and that is fine. You very rarely get exactly what it says on the box... Bit like when you get a new 250gb hd for example and it is only in fact say 240gb.

That's incorrect.

Unlike HDDs and SSDs there's no binary/decimal confusion with RAM.

RAM manufacturers and Windows both use the binary system of measurement.


OP, make sure the integrated GPU is disabled in Device Manager.

Do you have MVP installed? This could be why you are only seeing 7.87GB. If not, check with CPU-Z to verify that all the RAM is there. Window can get things wrong at times.

No it's not, it is that a PC reads a GB as 1024 mb etc.

Yes, MVP was the reason, I disabled this in the BIOS, and the system memory is now at 8gb

Probably the reason why I was getting really low FPS on Borderlands 2 even with all the settings turned down, it must have been using the Intel HD 4000
