I realise everyone's opinions will differ, but I guess my question is will I be giving up too much by changing to the HTC? The features that get the most attention seem to be the ones I am least likely to use, such as the camera and 4g. I won't get a chance to try the 8X till this weekend, so I've got a few days to see if I get used to it. Otherwise, on to eBay it goes.

It will be like going from a Volvo to a Citroen.

HTC have never IMHO produced a well designed handset. They're always strangely styled, they let out light by buttons or ports and they let in dust.

The 820 is a smaller lighter phone. Or try the Samsung Ativ?

Can anyone advise on how they have got on with trying to get their phone unlocked via the carrier. As I've said earlier I have been given the same answer from tmob on several occasions i.e stick the wife's contract sim in it and call up straight away for an unlock but has anyone tried yet?

Has anyone ordered from Clove?

WHITE STOCK ARRIVING 13TH NOVEMBER. Other colours to be confirmed. These handsets are unlocked and can be used on any network.

Yea I Justus an order in but on faith, I guess we will know tomorrow though as they say they will be sending them out then.

Thanks for the comment, certainly is making my decision even trickier.

I did try the 820, and to be fair it was my original choice of phone until the store I was in realised half way through the deal that they didn't actually have the correctly branded 820 in stock. Not wanting to leave the store empty handed, I went for the 920 (and got an exceptional deal in the process). But now that I've got the 920, I don't think I'd go back to the 820, mainly due to the fact that it still weights a fair bit (160g) but without any of the specs to back it up.

Reading about the 8X's issues, they are out there but people seem to think they're isolated issues. I had a Desire HD before this phone, and that lasted me a year and a half of chucking it off my bike and sliding it all over my desk. I get the impression only time will be able to convince me of one or the other, and I'll just have to wait and see how my impression changes of the Nokia.

I couldn't disagree with you more, the 8X is a very cool phone with great build quality and a lovely sharp display and its very easy to hold. It has a cool wide angle front camera and a very nice feel.

It isn't packing a touch screen that works with gloves or a special magical optically stabilized camera or wireless charging but for straight up WP8 and a bit of Beats equalization its a cool phone.

Performance wise its identical to the 920. Its just when you take all the cool features that Nokia have put in the 920 with the excellent software additions that they make it becomes hard to see why anyone would want an 8X.

Having got one of these yesterday, I'm finding it hard to decide whether to keep it or sell it and get the 8X.

I'm sold on WP8, and having come from Android (Jelly Bean) I'm finding the experience much slicker and more enjoyable. The animations and snappiness of it all makes it great to use, and the lack of apps hasn't bothered me yet.

The 920 itself is also a great phone, with technical specifications that can outdo any of the competition. The camera is impressive, and the screen crisp and bright. My issue with it though is partially the size and mainly the weight. I want a phone that feels solid and well built, but the Nokia is just a bit too big and bulky to feel comfortable in my hand and pocket.

Like someone else said, you will lose all the Nokia apps, which i think are superb - Nokia music, Nokia drive etc

Its probably important to note i own both, i was impatient and bought the 8x, and i got bored of it straight away. The build quality is ok, it does look good don't get me wrong, but the buttons on the device are so badly done - they are almost totally flushed into the shell that in the dark, it can take me over a minute to press the power on button.

Another issue is, on wp8, they haven't quite got the keyboard right. Its identical to the lumia 920, but more squashed - because of the screen size. I was pressing the wrong keys all the time!

Htc 8x is like the poor mans lumia 920. I think its a decision you will regret! I strongly advise you not to dude.

Actually I could not disagree with you more I purchased the 8x and returned it. Awful blacks levels, although very sharp. Camera was good in bright light but come low light and it is not very good. The phone does feel very good in the hand but the the soft touch back scratched easily.

Ive taken the plunge and ordered it from Clove.

Is it wireless charging ready or do i need a different back cover or anything? Im hoping i just need to buy the plate..?

All you need is the plate which EE stores have in stock if you want one immediately.

Somewhat coincidently the Lumia charger will also charge the Nexus 4 which is available to order tomorrow.

Does the screen really not compare against the Lumia 920's then? Because that's the main feature I'm enjoying with the 920.

Personally i didn't think so, I have a HTC One X and people are comparing the 8X to that but the HTC One X has a better screen IMO. I personally think the 920 has a better screen than both.

If i line all my smartphones up I would say i prefer the 920 and that's compared to the note 2, galaxy nexus, 4s and htc one x. Although i may be looking through rose tinted glasses in this honeymoon phase.

I have previously owned an HTC One X and I went into 3 shop last Saturday and played with the HTC 8X, to be honest, I felt the HTC One X was a more solid phone, nicer looking display and looked higher quality. The aesthetics didn't appeal to me. Which is why I prefer the Lumia 920.
