Well on my Dell the res is 2560x1600 so looking at 100% is hardly pixel peeping, just looking full screen.

Everything was on default auto settings with the flash set to off.

When you buy a phone because it is meant to have the best camera it is a little disappointing that it doesn't deliver right from the box.

Honestly, I think its to be expected that "out of the box" doesnt mean much, real world use is where it gets its testing, and so far we know Nokia are aware of it and their will be an update.

Best camera, for a mobile. I get the feeling you're expectations may have been a little high. Oh, analysing an image on a PC monitor at 100% is pixel peeping.

What are the manual settings like? Have you tried adjusting?

Went into an EE store today and they let me compare the demo iPhone 5, HTC 8X, Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 side by side, got my heart set on a 920 now :) just gotta wait for Vodafone to get them of for sim free at a reasonable price.

A guy in work has just got his, similar weight to my iphone 4s but way bigger. The screen is more accurate, it's almost identical to another guys iphone 5 so that's pretty damn sweet. Fast as well, everything is slick to use. Not sure I'd want a phone that big though, just such a shame them didn't use the same res on the 820.

Hah they are just doing a camera shoot out between 920 and iphone 5

True with most things but when they hype the camera up so much you would at least think that would be one thing that was right from day one.

I know being an early adopter has its downsides though and I will be sticking with the 920 as I really do like it!

Expectations for something that takes better pictures than iPhone 4S/5 (not just in the dark).

I don't like this term pixel peeping, looking at my pictures in full screen is looking at my pictures, its not like I am blowing them up and making a billboard.
If I want to use a picture as a desktop background I can't because it wouldn't look good enough.

As for the camera settings, they are:

Scenes:
Auto (default)
Close-up
Night
Night Portrait
Sports
Backlight

ISO:
Auto (default)
100
200
400
800

Exposure Value:
2
1 2/3
1 1/3
1
2/3
1/3
0 (default)
-1/3
-2/3
-1
-1 1/3
-1 2/3
-1

Aspect Ratio:
16:9 (default)
4:3

Focus Assist Light:

Anything worth playing with there?

Now people are starting to get them, i think we should start posting some pictures of them with our different home screens. I'll start.

Yes looking at it at 100% is called pixel peeping but it makes more sense when you're talking about a raw from a 15+ mega pixel camera where the image will look soft because it's not been processed and it's being shown on the wrong output medium.

Straight out of a phone it shouldn't look that soft but this matches up to a lot of the posts about 20 pages ago from the reviews as the majority of them also got soft results. The problem is compounded because other companies over saturate and sharpen pictures to try and make them look better which makes the 920's shots look softer and more neutral than they actually are. To my eye there is something wrong with the average shot out of the 920, it's just lacking detail but I seem to recall there being a post from France that they're going to be updating the camera software so hopefully that will fix it whenever it arrives.

I posted earlier suggesting to change the settings to 4:3 as I read somewhere that's the highest megapixel shot the camera can take but I never heard back if that was correct.

To those viewing the images, does it also not matter what the colour calibration is of their monitor?

Yeah a little bit, looking at them on a colour calibrated right next to where they where shot. The 920 is cooler and slightly green tint, 5 is slightly warm but more pleasing, this is under tungsten lighting though which most cameras get wrong. Wouldn't draw too many conclusions from it :p

wow we shoved the 920 and iphone 5 up against the S3 screen. The S3 looks horrible, it's colours are all over the place, like a nice green on 920 looks luminous on the S3 but gentle gradients on the 920 are simply missing on the S3.

Thanks for your input! Not really knowing about cameras myself that clears things up.

DanF could you please post another duck picture with the 920 camera on 4:3 that would be good to compare.

Although it mentions that you need this sticker a conflicting piece of info on there forums (http://support.phones4u.co.uk/pe/ac...D=10361757&channelID=10&portalPageId=10256075) states that if you have lost the sticker just fill in the IMEI, so I would still give it a go!
