So, what does everyone else think about the increasing use of 'Instagram'? It's being used by a large number of people on Facebook and I don't understand why...

I'm no expert on the matter but it seems to take acceptable photos and make them look horrendous IMO.

I am willing to accept that I might be alone on this and that everyone else does indeed think it improves photographs.

It doesn't improve them, it just provides colour alterations for those who aren't familiar or haven't got the time to use photoshop. As above, it's just a fad.

As much as I personally resent it, and can't see myself using it - I thoroughly approve.

Instagram is successful because it does what Google+ couldn't, girls love that ****. I'm all for something that makes girls think posting ****ty pics online is 'allowed' because they put a stupid bloody filter over it! Let's be honest, a lot of Facebook time is spent perving and stalking sloots you used to know.

New fad.

Ignore it.

It's not a new fad. It's now mainstream and being used by all the unwashed masses on Facebook.

I had an account when it was a 'new fad' and followed people who took very good pictures. I deleted my account when Facebook acquired them but picture quality had already dropped by then.

90% of the internet is porn, facebook is another 9% at least.

:D

Wait...everyone on my FB is just taking photos of cars or whatever food they've eaten.....

Provide a link to the pictures you're referring to and I will definitely rethink my opinion ;):p

Instagram has its detractors, like anything. I actually quite like it. In my opinion, it does make my terrible photographs look more interesting. It's very fast and easy to use, too.

It's just another function to utilise.

Your doing it wrong. I'm not posting any legit FB pics because they'll get detectived on here and my cover will be blown! I'm sure Google can reveal all.

It's popular because people think that applying stupid pre generated filters to otherwise completely crap photos is artistic and cool and means the pictures are no longer crap.

I like it and I'm a professional. Its quick and easy and I always have my phone on my unlike my DSLR, laptop and a copy of Photoshop.

I don't tag or publish my pictures or even both with following anyone but friends but my plan is to just get a print done of all the images taken across a year. Mine so far: http://rghjones.co.uk/

It's quick and easy to use and makes photos marginally more interesting to look at.

The whole 'it's for hipsters' etc is just tiring rubbish and it's people just attempting to be elitist.

Nothing wrong with it as an app or a social platform.

It's overused but you can quickly apply some nice effects.

My main concern with it is the amount of pictures being made openly available to the whole world. Very few people seem to take the time to change the privacy settings and girls in particular seem to take a hell of a lot of pics of themselves using it.

This is rather cool though:

There's nothing wrong with using instagram. The problem is when the photo has so many filters, colour gradients and other **** applied to it you can barely see the object in question.

I would actually have to spend a reasonable amount of time in photoshop purposefully trying to make something look bad and it still wouldn't be as bad as some (most?) instagram photos.

I use it a lot but it's basically because the entire community of tattoo artists shifted to it as it suits photo sharing a lot better than facebook and twitter.

It's a great way to share pictures with your friends.

Yes, there are a lot of retro pictures of people's feet, but you don't have to follow people who take those pictures.

The quality if your instagram feed is dictated by who you follow. If all your friends are idiots it won't be very interesting.
