Hd 7850 good?

yea okay guys its faster because graph says yes and has 3gb vram vs 6950/70 2gb vram

note lack of real tests and min frames on graphs I still say a 7850 is not faster than a 6970 in the full picture quoting battlefield 3 and drivers that boosted 7 series performance doesn't mean diddly

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=509 heres a crysis and metro comparison with a 7870 - battlefield 3 drivers so for my money I would saya 7850 still sits around or just under a 6950/6970

I swapped out a 6950 for a 7870, The performance improvement is pretty substantial, its not massive but it is very much there, anything up to 50% in some games.

I agree with d_brennen completely.

@ C64, i'm geeing an average of 20 to 30 FPS more in BF3 than i did with the 6950. its gone from less than 50 FPS on full Ultra to 70 easily.#

Operation SwordBreaker (car park battle) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=22995656&postcount=89 one of the toughest BF3 benches averaging 70FPS, the 6950 chocked on that bench, i know, i had one.

The 7850 comes in 1GB and 2GB versions. Also there are 18 games tested in that techpower review. I also suspect that the 12.11 driver is the first of the new drivers that unlock the new GCN performance. As I said before, once you overclock the gap gets huge. I don't think a 6950 or 6970 could pull off a 40% OC on stock voltage.

At stock, I can see what you mean, C64. :)

Thing is, I've never been that impressed with graphics card overclocking reviews,...that is until the 7000 series. You only need to get a below average clocker and you'd be looking at 580 performance, which is nothing to sniff at. Some folk have managed to get their card (7850) to give a 7950 a run for its money, though that is not the norm to be fair.

This series was designed for overclocking. :)

At stock (1000 / 1200) with 12.11 drivers the 7870 is quite a bit faster than the GTX 580.

This was done on 12.7 BETA, that eventually ended up as 12.8

Notice the GTX 660TI there?

Have a look at this

See that? a stock 7870 is now slightly faster than a GTX 660TI :)
