I'm very tempted by a 1440p monitor and have the impression that losing MSAA at this resolution isn't a big deal.
Tbh, I don't think it's a big deal @1080p but was wondering if anyone here would care to share their experience regarding image quality and fps running a single 7950 @1440p.

At the moment I'm running 1080p maxed out/4xMSAA with no framerate issues simply because I can lol :D

With no kind of AA at 1080p, imo most games look horrible. At 1440p, no AA is really not that bad at all. You can barely notice jaggies in fast-paced play. Also, a little bit of AA at that res goes a lot further. BF3 looks great with medium FXAA and no MSAA.

I can get around 40/50 (minimum/average) from my overclocked 7970 in BF3 full ultra so I reckon you'd be looking at around 35/45 from a 7950. If you go full ultra but turn off MSAA (and leave FXAA on) you should get >60FPS minimum for 95% of the time.

I run with no MSAA on BF3 across my 3 screens and don't notice it. Action is fast paced, so no real time to look around and the game looks stunning anyways. It is a shame I am sick of it now though :(

Cheers guys.

It sounds pretty much like going from my 5870 to the 7950 @1080p from what you say (pre 12.11).

Tbh, I don't play much BF3 now, but I do enjoy it when I can be bothered and I'm not getting spawn raped.
I'm using BF3 here as a general yardstick for performance.

I have played more than 850 hours and the top level...I started doing all my unlocks and man was I getting bored. Bring on BF4 as I need a new challenge and I love the game play. I was going to pull hte trigger on MOH but mates tell me it is pants and not to bother.

Back to Civ V for me then :)

lol, I only picked it up a couple of months back after despising it on console.
Not a huge MP kinda guy, but it's good stuff in small doses for me.

Main reason I play it is to justify all the time and money that went into the pc :p
Look! I can max out BF3 wooo!

I haven't played MOH multiplayer, but the single players is the worst military shooter I've ever played. I managed to stick it out for half an hour but uninstalled it after that because I knew I would never play it again :( Total pants.

I hear that and something about saying "I can max BF3 gives a warm feeling all over" :p

I hear the MP is the same. I had the 50% off code and almost bought it but so glad I went for Hitman/Far cry/Sleeping dogs and something else I forgot instead :D

You could also use an FXAA injector (danoc 1.3 is a good one), it not only completes fixes the (IMO) hideous washed colours, but greatly sharpens the image at the expense of roughly 5 FPS, much less than any type of MSAA.

I've had a go with a couple of injectors and yeah, one of them was pretty decent on most maps.
Been playing with the colour tweaker too.

Tbh, I was ok with avg mid/high 50's fps with a 5870 on ultra/High FXAA. I reckon the 7950'll do around the same or probably more at 1440p and look better doing it.

lol, a guy on another forum got a 1440p screen and then sold his 7970 to wait for next gen gpus because it wouldn't run BF3 @ultra/4xAA over 60fps.
He also couldn't get above 1125mhz with water cooling.

He's now reverted to an 8800gt and is playing BF3 on the xbox because he just won't stand for not being able to max out games on the pc.

Oh lawd... Need appropriate derp gif.

Btw, this is pre 12.11.

Petey, having just ordered a 1440p monitor myself im keen to know how you found battlefield 3 on the ultra preset with your 7950. :)

Expand my good man. I want graphical data, bar charts, results and a conclusion. :p

Or failing all that, a bit more detail plox. Overclock settings, minimum fps, average etc etc.

I'll give it run again in about an hour or so and fill you in with some details. Monitor I ran it on was a DGM IPS-2701WPH 27! Looks pretty good.

I'd love to tell you, alas, my budget took a bit of a hit so I'm gonna have to postpone this upgrade for a little while :(

Hopefully Geeman can put to rest any concerns :)
