I'm wanting to buy a new card, haven't got a lot to spend but was looking at the Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 640.

I don't know much about them so when I see 2GB, I think it's better than 1GB, is that always the case?

Don't think my motherboard supports DDR5.

I have to put it straight and say the GT 640 is rubbish and would not suffice in games. Your mobo will support GDDR5 on a GPU and this is what is on decent graphics cards.

Assuming your budget is around £80, I would look to the second hand market and the rest of your spec id great :)

The 2GB Vs 1 GB is a decent argument but 1GB of GDDR5 will eat 2GB GDDR3 for breakfast :)

Edit:

This would be pretty decent for semi decent settings in games.

Cool thanks, I looked at my motherboard spec on the gigabyte website but couldn't see anything saying GDDR5.

I could spend a bit more if it's worth it :)

Nothing at the moment but would play CoD, Portal.

I was looking at the Asus nVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti until I thought GDDR5 wasn't compatible.

You are looking at RAM bud. Your mobo will support DDR3. GDDR is graphics card RAM and completely different to mobo RAM :)

As for those games, the card I linked will cope nicely with those games :)
