*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

The Steam sales pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the WiiU. £30 got me about five games that all look better than anything it's launching with. I'll wait for a proper flagship Nintendo title or something from Platinum before parting with the cash.

On a side note - if you had two WiiU on order, would you cancel or sell them?

+1 - apart from initial layout cost

PC gaming - especially with all digital content sales - is very very rosy atm :)

I had ago on one at my local HMV, the controller is nice to hold not much heavier then a 360 pad, the buttons have good placement too, unfortunately they had Rayman playing on it so I didnt really get to see what it can really do.

By all accounts it's really quite solid, theres a video on here somewhere showing how solid it's built with some guy dropping it from 4 foot from all different angles.

Hopefully you can get some stick on screen protectors like phones/pads...

What are people banging on about really, Some of you have absolutely no clue how this works,
The Wii U is more powerful than both the 360 and ps3 without question, It may not be much more powerful but it IS more powerful and that is a FACT.
the issue here is ports being shoe horned onto the console without optimisation.

You need to wait for a proper first party game before you can make true judgement.
Zombiiu looks pretty good to me, I look forward to the releases in the next 6 months or so when people get a handle on how to code for it.

Is the (main) controller in the premium bundle different to cheaper versions one? Apart from colour? Logic would dictate it should be the same!?

It's replaceable. Pretty much guarantee there'll be far better batteries for sale soon (including 3rd party).

Can't you have two of them (batteries), one in the unit and one out? And you simply always have the spare charged up? What I do with my Wii controllers!?

Controller is the same in both packs.

The Controller has a large space where the battery only takes up a portion of it, looks like for an extended battery in the future. And don't forget you can play with the Controller powered up, assuming you can live with a cable?

I've had wired cables most of my gaming life so it's not too bad for me: in saying that, if I can get 5 hours of gaming then something special is happening anyway!

most important question regarding buying a wii u.

does the wii u version of colonial marines let you use your new shiny wii pad as a motion detector. ?

Just been reading a bit about transferring Wii saves over to the Wii U (as my kids will be playing their old Lego games on it a bit). It looks very simple to do but I have just read that it wipes your Wii completely, as in it moves the saves rather than copying them.

This would be fine but I was planning on keeping the Wii (and obviously the save games) for holidays.

Having read about it a bit I am sure I will be able to back up the saves on the Wii before the transfer and hopefully restore them afterwards, has anyone heard of this?

Bolded the interesting bit:

That fact that the Wii U is only slightly more powerful than two systems which are now very old hat, for me smacks of small mindness. The xbox is 7 years old in a couple of weeks for starters. Surely if you create a new console and your nearest competitor is nearly 7 years old, surely you should up the tech specs a considerable amount to show the difference and "wow" us.

I'm not wowed with the Wii U, in fact, it's falling into the same bracket as the original Wii where I think Nintendo got the specs of that machine vastly wrong too.
