the truman show

It has a VERY good concept behind it, a very interesting idea. I'd say that it isn't the best film as I think it gets elevated stature becuase its concept is just so very good.

I think its a good film, but it had the potential to be truly GREAT. Thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.

Yes great movie. Can't believe nobody has mentioned man on the moon which IMO Is his greatest movie based in a true story. It's actually based on the life on Andy Kauffman.

As far as Jim Carrey goes , his most under rated work is Cable Guy. Hes genuinely disturbing on it :)

i see 'i love you phillip morris' has been mentioned in here too. a great film i must give another whirl. never seen man on the moon :o

Bit baffled when I read the OP. I was sure it got really good reviews. Had to check Rotten Tomatoes, etc, just to be sure. Fantastic film. :)

I always thought the Truman Show was well regarded??
Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are also very good.
This won't be popular but I also enjoyed The Number 23. Have only seen it once some years ago so it needs a rewatch.

It's one of films that I wouldn't put in my top 20,but I've probably watched it more than any other film.

Great watch and some awesome scenes in it

Number 23 is good, quite dark.

i remember reading a review of it when it was released and it was slated.

as others have said, i don't think certain reviewers like carrey doing 'serious'.

  • Man on the Moon
  • The Trueman Show
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • Me, Myself and Irene

Are all properly fantastic films, really, really good performance from Carrey in each. He's got so much more to him then playing silly characters, much like other comic actors, Robin Williams is a good example.

I never saw the truman show until many years after it was released. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.

Edit //Puts Eternal Sunshine on must watch list.// Had never heard of it before this thread.

It had received poor reviews and the other people i watched it with thought it was rubbish.

i, however thought it was really good and i still do. i just love the concept and how carrey plays the role.

what do you think? misunderstood greatness or a load of rubbish?

 95% on Rotten Tomatoes & poor reviews

Peter Weir doesn't make bad films, period.

Not his best though, but I enjoyed watching it.
