Question about the 660ti

I recently bought a 120Hz monitor, so I'm probably due for an graphic card upgrade soon. One thing i can say is that the 660WF i have in my PC atm is a lot better then the 7850s ive tried ive had both MSI and WF 7850s and they are crap compare to the 660!!

AMD cards spike fps all over the place, this 660 doesnt and it has much higher fps in all games ive tried.

One thingi should mention is that the 7850 was being a pain in the ass in my machine so im not sure if its down to that and therefore it underperformed in games?

Im gonna try AMD again since im getting a new machine but i hope its as good as Nvidia or ill be ****ed! I have 0 problems with Nvidia cards, some say thats why they are more expensive, plus the other extras like physx, i dunno how the hell AMD cant do that its nothing special :|
 
660Ti will perform well at 1080p, but there are far better options for your money.
You could save some money and pick up a 660 (non-Ti) which is almost as good but FAR cheaper.
You could save up for a 670, which will be far more future-proof.
Or you could consider purchasing an AMD card.

No-one is going to recommend a 660Ti atm, because it is supposed to be a card which offers good performance for it's price, but currently doesn't.

tl;dr:
it WILL get the job done, but there ARE BETTER OPTIONS out there at the moment if you want to get more performance per £ spent (which is generally the most important factor in this particular price range)...
I am an nVidia fan boy, never used AMD cards, but you really cannot argue that AMD offer the superior option for price : performance in this price range at the moment.


there's really no need to argue about this over multiple threads >.<

I still prefer nvidia, been buying nvidia cards since i was 14 and im 22 now :D My first Amd card was just over a month ago and i chose that purely for the the price: performance. Not going to lie i was a bit hesitant going to amd for the first time. The moral of the story... follow price: performance and not the greedy companies image :D

The reason i chose the 660ti was because right now its my limit in price for a nVidia card, i suppose i could get the 660 and have a marginal dip in performance or save up the extra 60 quid or whatever and get a 670.

A natural thing to assume that the most you can afford is your best option. Just not with the 660Ti.

660 SLI would be way way better and not that much more cash.
 
Well the only AMD cards ive had have been BAD!!!

1. because it was a crap card.

2. because of compatibility issues :\

Nvidia do cost a fortune but they are hassle free.

If u really want Nvidia get the 660 for cheaper trust me its just a quick and a decent card.

If you want long term get the 7950 not the 670. By the time the 660 is useless u can get a better card with the £140 extra you would have paid for the 670.

If you wanna pay £50 more for a 7950 and risk it, i hear theres loads of problems with some of them but im going that way too, just hope its all worth it!
 
The reason I chose a GTX 660 Ti over the GTX 660 was that the extra performance of the Ti comes at a crucial point, you can run all modern games that I have tried at maximum or very near maximum settings.

I agree that GTX 660 SLi is nVidia's best bang for buck solution, but £320 was over budget for me. (and they cost more at the time I bought mine)

The reason I chose GTX 660 Ti over GTX 670 is that the GTX 670 was over budget pure and simple.

As for benchmarks, it seems to depend where you look.

Well that link shows that anything under really high res it wont make a pick of difference. If you dont monitor FPS you wouldnt notice tbh.

If 2 pcs 1 with 660 other with 660Ti and you didnt know which was which you wouldnt have a clue.

But swap the 660 out and stick the 7950 in, i think youd notice, and not just by alt tabbing to see if Nvidia control is there :P

That link shows a difference of around 9 fps, slap bang in the middle of where you will notice it, i.e. between 30 and 60 fps.

I am not having a pop at the GTX 660 as you can easily get those few fps back by lowering one of the settings a tad.

GTX 660 = great value for money IMO.

I know the human eye....etc,etc

But games do tend to stutter as framerates get around 30-40fps, probably because of the lows.
Surely 60fps should be your (ideal) target?

If you already have a GTX 660 why not just buy another and SLi them in your new rig?
 
I know it bothers me too i need around 40+ FPS you can only see the difference if its spiking like going from 50 to 30.

if you set FPS limet to 30 and the card can keep at these levels with no loss you dont notice it.

Good game to check this with is Divinity 2.

Fast action like BF3 maybe notice more, im 40+ minimum myself but yeah some games 30 is fine. and 660 never goes below 35 so its basically not worth getting the Ti end of.

Im selling this rig to buy my new rig and selling the card along with it :D Im also selling a GTX 285 lol.

:( lol, it just doesn't matter which tack I try, I can't sell these GTX 660 Ti's :D

I expect the price to plummet in the near future due to their unpopularity.

pfff...forget GTX660Ti...GTX670 at £150 please! When AMD launch 88xx cards...then I would most likely get one.

The GTX570 was more expensive to produce than the GTX670, and it did drop to £150 range when new gen cards came out, so one could hope I think! :p
