My motherboard is an SLI compatible GDAX-UD5H i have a MSIGTX570 and want another.

For SFR mode of rendering can i have one card in an PCIE 2.0 x6 and the other in x8, or must i use both in x8?

they will both run x8 I believe with out checking.

u wnt notice the difference tho.

sli 570s u will get vram issues if its the 1.2gb versions. power is there to max games but the run out of memory

Because its not enough VRAM....
Most modern games easily run out at 1GB, a standard for a new GPU now is 2GB mid end.

iit doesnt drop to 5fps,

i had 570 sli before 1.2GB & 2.5GB wasnt that much difference gf3 at 1600p

maybe 20fps

ive got a 570 gtx as a backup card , ive tried to run max settings on battlefield 3 and the v-ram was running to the max, it was using 1.2 gb and sometimes stuttering had to drop setting to cope with it. that with 1920x1200

1080p / 4xMSAA / 16xAF / ULTRA all - these are the settings i use with all my games. As for it isn't enough, i hoped for an in depth explanation as to why this is the case. By the way i use a 32" Samsung 3D Smart TV for gaming so I'm limited to 60Hz effective for my gaming, I want a setup that can give me 60FPS constant.

well its the card i would use if my 7970 died! (touch wood) so i would call it my backup! got it dirt cheap so i brought it. it overclocks like a mother ####

Next year new generation coming out if you could wait, since your GPU isnt that bad.
I would wait intil Q1 the latest Q2.
If not than sell 570 and buy 7950.

I think I'm looking to spend as little money as possible until I'm ready for a 120Hz 3D monitor. Doubling the 570 should close the gap for the setup i have until i do such. I just want to get constant 60FPS with all games.

Spending out on a 7950 worries me since it has had poor reviews regarding tessellation, it doesn't have Physx and isn't 3D ready in the way Nvidia's cards are. I want to wait for Maxwell cards if at all possible.

I was running evga gtx 570 sc in sli.

bf3 max setting at 1080 was using 1.4gb vram.

hence y I changes to a 670.

sli 570s have the power but not enough vram
