Far Cry 3 Thread

Been getting most of the towers and bases on the first island upto now and came across the last base, thought i would record it to see what happens when i try to use a jeep and some C4 to take out some enemy's but it's fails miserable plus i get a heli on my arse which i didn't know could happen and i have no weapons for it aswell but i get a lot of help from an unlikely friend.

Seems like embedding isn't working for the video for some reason so here is the link

Games today,, flashy graphics, crap gameplay im afraid.
Open world games do not work IMO.

Really? Then why did I play it for almost 10 hours on Saturday :D I haven't done that with a game in a looong time.

The graphics aren't actually that amazing, some nice mocap and facial animation (Bethesda could learn a lot!) but the world and such is mediocre for the most part. Definitely seen dodgy tree sprites while in a hang glider.

While I'm struggling to enjoy FC3, I had no problem with Fallout3. In fact it's probably my favourite game of all time.

Mind you, I never got on very well with Oblivion, and haven't started Skyrim yet.

I still think FC1 and some levels of Crysis1 were the best compromise though. Throw me into a huge area with a few goals and let me decide how I get to the spout of the "funnel" and the next section. Preferably without having to MASH the spacebar. Ever.</qte>

only played 1hr so far not pulling me in but read it gets better.

the linearity of fc1 actually made that game good. sometimes a bit of corridor shooters and limited paths helps the game flo etc.

Well anyway this has been rather dull, picking herbs, skinning animals is this RDR in disguise?

early days but i hthink it would be better if this type of game was like skyrim with no closed of miissions, 1 big world to explore and several stories, characters to be found.

Kinda like a fallout meets skyrim meets just cause 2

just finished the campaign and I'm quite a hard person to please with games but this was fantastic imo 9/10 from me and goty can't see what people are moaning about

jumped off a pier last night to cross a small river and landed straight in an alligator's mouth! Scared the crap out of me because I wasn't expecting any trouble at all lol.

I'm also really enjoying this game, not understanding the people hating on it, makes me think they may not have actually played it for any amount of time?

I recommend you sink some serious hours into this game, then come back.

Go explore, don't use quicktravel, get a jeep or a quad and ride between objectives, stopping off to investigate relic/loot locations, you'll unlock some sweet guns and have a better time of it.

I've just moved onto the second island, unlocked a new set of weapons.

Spent about 10 hours playing yesterday :| my brain is mush but I want to go back for more.

Only issue I do have is performance.

Running with 680sli in dx11 at 2560x1440, all on ultra, full 16xQ CSAA, pretty much solid 60fps until it gets a bit mental on screen, and then it goes down to say 45, which seems to be really choppy in this game.

If I run in dx9 I get no such issues.

Hopefully that will improve with drivers.

Nope, hate the bow, feel weak, it's slow, cumbersome, no steady aim like the sniper (aka easy mode haha).

I am defo a sniper fan boy in this game, just love it silenced with the extended scope. SO much more fun.

Pretty much this, its excellent silently dispatching your enemies with the other guards not having a clue whats going on. :D

And even if they run up to inspect the body, just do a silent takedown on them.

Didnt realise you can disable alarms in bases to stop reinforcements coming

I much prefer to get in close and do some melee takedowns.

So much fun to be had with death from below/above, knife takedowns and grenade takedowns.

I think I've given up with this game before I've even started it. Russian version worked, but was in.. well, Russian. Downloaded the English version and it crashes to desktop after the loading screen. I wouldn't mind downloading it again or whatever, but I'm on a slow connection and it took all bloody night.

Sorry but that's your own fault not the games.

^^This.Seems like some people put in a couple of hours and moan it isn't any good. This game needs serious investment.Played 10 hours or so and feel like I barely scratched the surface. So much to do and such varied gameplay it's ridiculous. A lot of nitpicking from some posters, imo. No game is perfect.

Takedowns are so much fun.Especially when the detection meter is almost full and you plunge the knife in their necks at he last moment.

Another cool element when attacking camps is switching off the alarm. Can get pretty hairy at times.

You bought the Russian version. Why is this a game fault?

How many hours of gameplay do you expect to get from this then? I don't buy games much but really enjoyed Skyrim (or other open world games) got nearly 200hrs into Skyrim now and still have stuff to do, does FC3 come anywhere near that?

Doubt it very much. But then, not many games will.

I'd say max of about 40-50 hours. However they will be a very enjoyable 40-50 hours :D
