Doubt many of you will know, or even heard of a man named ODEE. He's the team manager of Team Dignitas, arguably one of the oldest, largest and well known Professional Gaming Outfits.

Unfortunately he's had a bit of a family tragedy caused by a house fire. I won't go into all the details, but a video put up by TotalBiscuit is below.

Don't take this as a cry out for help, but TB has kindly put up a "chipin" page accepting donations for ODEE, his partner and children - it seems their house, and all their possessions within it, is a total loss.

Can't bear to think about that kind of situation, least of all for his kids.

Terrible thing to happen to anyone and TB's heart is in the right place.
But at the risk of sounding harsh, as the team manager of something like dignitas, considering how much money can be made in the gaming world. I doubt he is in need of much financial help.

The house looks like a council house?

Home insurance?

OK the payout might not be instant... but seriously, calling for donations for this when he a) is employed and probably has a decent salary and b) will get a insurance payout (if he hasn't got it, then that's tough imo).... as devastating as it is and I feel for him and his family, I hope he takes that $15k and gives it to a charity for people affected by burns or something as that's where the money should go.

Yea what I mean if he's loaded why does he own a council house? Unless they train on a seperate property

I don't really follow much esport but I was always under the assumption that there really isn't much money in esport managing and the managers only did it as a passion, I could be very wrong though. Either way a house fire is a terrible thing especially so close to Christmas hopefully they can get the house sorted before then good luck to them.

You're all wrong.

There's around a handful of people in the esports scene (Not including players) that can support themselves from what they do.
Most top players can support themselves through their winnings but I'd say in the SC2 scene I know there's only about 20-30 players that I can say would be able to in the longterm.

Very few sponsorship deals for gaming teams are actually payouts, most of them are like "We'll pay you $0.14 for every viewer you advertise to. It's averaged over however many hours they're streaming etc"
--

I for one am not doing to donate (They've now stopped asking for donations anyway as they hit their goal).

I feel for the guy but just because he is a manager of a gaming outfit which means he can hold out his cap to regular gamers is a bit nauseating for me tbh.

is he going to make a youtube vid himself when he runs out of loo roll, or energy to wipe it himself?!

There I was thinking this was about IWD getting banned...sad to hear but honestly he doesn't need the money, even though there are enough people in the Esports scene that would donate.

I'm pretty sure the video was sent to TB because they are friends seeing as they both come from the EU scene which is pretty small.

TB posted it on reddit himself and ODEE did not ask for any of this.

ALL and I mean ALL news reports about esports are absolutely wrong.
There's only 10 people in the SC2 scene that have earned $50k/year or more and after that it drops significantly.

Demuslim, the best known UK SC2 gamer has earned $19k in 3 years. That doesn't count his wage from his team but there are very few teams that offer a salary.

I don't think many people need the money but he's not rich, wealthy etc.

People are delusional about how much people in esports earn.

Tough timing to be honest, but the guy is a total ****...

Luckily lots of other people have donated already!

whilst im sure its a tough time for him, the house is not devastated, the fire looks to have been bad it was pretty well contained and certainly didnt destroy the house, the fact that the services are letting him sleep there means it kinda wasn't that bad.

I presume he had insurance and yes the payout can be slow but asking for donations is pretty ****** imo.

people buy council houses, and he didn't have insurance? I doubt hes poor either if hes managing an esports team

the chipin page says its ended anyway and he got almost 15k $

Diginitas have a shed load of sponsors such as Intel iirc, their sponsors could have changed as that was a while ago, the guy doesn't need donations.
