Newcastle Upon Tyne - Might be moving

If you are doing it update the thread and let us know! Could do an ocuk Newcastle meet and show you the sights! Maybe even do the metro pub crawl...... :D

Have I just recruited an OCUK member to my home town?

OP, if you want some advice on which estates to look at just drop me a PM. There are still places you want to avoid!!!

Yes, Cramlington is full of roundabouts and old peoples homes!!

That would be awesome, Whenever I'm up next which will likely be early 2013 now I'll update this thread!. I'll see if I can stay up there with the business :)

Haha you potentially have, nowhere near my final decision just yet as there are quite a few factors and pros/cons to go through :)

Cheers, Will definitely drop you a PM because at the moment I'm just searching flats/apartments within Newcastle upon tyne which as you can imagine is giving me over 100 pages of results......

I wonder if I could draw you a custom search on zoopla which will exclude all the "not so good" areas of the north east! Then send you it.

what's wrong with not as good areas?

all of the "suits" have no problem parking their nice cars in my area and walking into town even though its a "not as good area"

A few people living in some flats near me all leave for work in the morning wearing nice suits as well, Whilst the area may look a bit crap and you wouldn't want your kids going to one of the local schools many people live here that you wouldn't expect to

Nothing's wrong with the 'not so good areas' I don't mean it in an offensive way. The area I currently live is probably a not so good but I know the area well and the people in it.

Just wanted to find an average area I can get to know first of and settle in to the city :).

Wow, over the moon in the amount of replies. Sorry for my late reply. I'm 19 and living in Southampton. Moving up Newcastle (If I do) will be probably one of the biggest decisions I've had to make haha. Leaving all family and friends behind :( but I suppose its only a 5-6 hours journey.

I have my car which I'd most likely be taking up there :) and I'm not really stuck to living in NE12 I thought I'd start looking around there as I'll be heading to Quorum Business Park Mon-Fri but would happily commute in Car/Metro/Bus as I currently do an hour drive to this job.

I've visited once so far just to check out the business park and the city centre loved it from what I saw. It's just the fact I know absolutely nothing other than it looks good and the metro is real easy to use haha, Other than that i'm just looking for advise/info on the place :)
I live in NE12. Loads of nice areas. Quorum is definitely better served by busses than the metro - but loads of them visit there; 62, x63, x4/5/6 all go nearby if not through it - if you're in one of the bigger places there, Tesco, Paypal, etc, then they have car parks too. North Tyneside has plenty of places you can get somewhere to live. My friend just got a room in a shared house about 5 minutes walk from Quorum, for £300 a month inclusive - decent place too.

Leazes Terrace, about 20ft away from St James' Park!
Hey, you scruffy islander-type - I didn't realise you were up this way now. What are you up to?

Plus there's the snowy owl pub! The Sunday lunches! Omfgzorrrrr!!!
Best Sunday lunch in the area is the Killingworth Arms. Even the Sun on Sunday says so! :D

thing is about newcastle is even the worst areas are nothing when compared to inner city areas of the larger uk cities like london, manchester or birmingham

and living south of the tyne is easily possible now thanks to the second tyne tunnel

but killingworth our south gosforth are probably the closest for you..massive commuter estates line the A19 now so commutes dont take long with only a few really bad bottlenecks

if you chose to live close by though south gosforth has a good high street and an outstanding pub in the Brandling Villa..I would be getting as close to that as possible!!

That tends to be a high priority when I'm currently thinking about future locations to live in. I'd much rather have a smaller house, in a nicer location with much better schools. Than have a large house, in a terrible estate with terrible schools...

well my oldest went to jesmond when he was 7 and then on to heaton manor when he should have been to crap schools.

Years ago when I lived there permanently I would have felt the same. But after living in Kent, Aylesbury, Wolverhampton and Scotland.. I can actually say I love south Shields.

I take friends up for weekends out on the town and they all really like it too. Good links to places. Nice beach and parks. It's got crap areas and maybe I have rose tintedglasses of my home town but it's really quite a good place :-)

Perhaps. I suppose my opinion of South Shields is jaundiced by the fact that my company dictates that I go to South Tyneside College, and while there I'm on cadet's pay, which is crap, meaning I can only afford to live in the crappy areas of Shields :(

Oh well, end is in sight.

Yeah, thought I'd grow up and try to get a career! Studying medicine now.

It's cold up north. What was that white stuff coming out of the sky earlier?

If you want to be in Newcastle, Jesmond, Gosforth, Sandyford, High Heaton, Benton, then Heaton in that order. If you want somewhere really cheap, Fenham is great.

Nearer the coast Tynemouth or Monkseaton (where I am currently) are great. :)

Ive spent many a good night in the Monkey Arms before I married my Geordie lass and then after when we would travel up to see her family.
