“@BryanSinger: I'd like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast”

“@BryanSinger: Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come...”

Very much looking forward to this sequel and very much like that Fox are now going to bridge the gap between the prequels and the original trilogy with both this and next years Wolverine. I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before Jackman is confirmed for Days of Future Past as well....

Such as?

Only firm details thus far is next years Wolverine film is set directly after the events of Last Stand

Presumably Days of Future Past will be used to unite the First Class film with the other three X-Men films then?

Well details like Mystique knowing Xavier, Cerebro being built by Beast not Magneto and Xavier, various people apparently not ageing (Storm, Moira, Emma Frost) Hank becoming Beast despite being shown as human in X2, Xavier and Magneto becoming enemies in First Stand yet they are shown as friends at the beginning of Last Stand (with Xavier walking), Xavier's paralysis continuity is shaky at best.

I assumed they were keeping separate universes tbh.

I must have missed that althrough it's been a few years now since i've seen it

Oooh, I wonder if this will be based on the original storyline from the 80s comic, the revamped version using Bishop that was in the animated series, or a whole new idea.

Days of Future past being a story about time travel could easily make the necessary changes to continuity within the film itself.

I think they are just using the older versions of the actors to create a familiarity though.

I'm 50/50 on this, Bryan Singer isn't the bees knees, X-men was an okay introduction, it wasn't good really, it had a terrible script and crap action.

X-2 was a much better film all round.

X-Men: last stand by Ratner is probably the joint worst comic film for me alongside spider-man 3 and fell for the old trope, bigger and more is better... Awful.

X-Men: First Class by Matthew Vaughn (written by himself and Jane Goldman) is probably the best super powered comic film to date, it's almost perfect, from the serious, yet witty script down to the stylised era and cinematography. Brilliant.

Now sadly Vaughn has stepped off (for either Secret Service or Star Wars) and Singer has stepped back in with his own crew and also started tinkering Jane Goldman's script.

It feels like a massive step back in terms of talent involved.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but I've lost my excitement for the film after recent developments.

Same, maybe I need to re-watch all 4 films :/

Personally though from memory just because they didn't acknowledge Mystique knowing Xavier personally in the very first X-Men film doesn't mean she doesn't/didn't, they just didn't mention it is all.

I'll be honest though I remember very little about Last Stand or First Class

They've turned it into a cash piñata these days. Didn't watch first class and will never watch another one unless they ignore all the old tripe and start all over again sticking to solid comic stories and making it more dark. Won't happen though so I'll continue to avoid :p

That's what First Class is Newts...

You telling me you didn't watch it because it was old tripe, despite it being a fresh take with a fresh creative team....

:confused::confused:

As I was saying.....

Hugh Jackman could appear in the new X-Men movie, it has been reported.

The actor has begun talks to play the character in X-Men: Days of Future Past, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackman, who appeared in the first three X-Men movies and spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine, recently finished filming The Wolverine for release next July.

Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, who played younger versions of the characters in X-Men: First Class, are also attached to appear in the new movie, along with Nicholas Hoult as Beast/Hank McCoy and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be based on Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men storyline.

Production is due to start in January 2013, with a release date pencilled in for July 18, 2014.

I was so fed up I didn't even give it a chance tbh, is it a good, and dark, take on things? Haven't even watched wolverine films despite him being the best character in the comics.

First Class is just that, first class. It's as close to the comic as it has ever been, especially down to the uniforms and stylized era of the 60's which fits well with how the comics have been portraying the characters in recent years under Gillen and the likes. It's got Dark moments, but with the script being by Goldman and Vaughn it has a sharpness that few screenwriters can manage, as well as humour. It's got a grounded feel to it, being the beginning of an age, rather than trying to blow it out of proportion.

Stay the hell away from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Dire. ****s on every character that it introduces. needs to be wiped from existence.

Also, I can't agree with your thoughts on Wolverine being the best character in the comics, he's the most 1 dimensional in the X-Men cast, and I've read it all from his origins (Daniel Way), to his ends (Mark Millar) and everything in-between :p

Of note, Mark Millar (Comic writer and Fox's Creative Consultant on Marvel films) tweeted this morning that the new Wolvie is the one he thinks will surprise most, and that the script is immense, that's given me a bit of hope for this after the news Aronofsky dropped out (That film would have been something extraordinary)

TLDR - Watch First Class, Wolvie isn't that good :)

No it's really bad, awful in fact. Thankfully it's just a spin off that we can forget unlike the upcoming Wolverine film which is actually tied to the original trilogy...
