So, after creating this thread last night http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18466729

Corsa did break suddenly and stopped, myself and Seat were stationary, Mercedes went into the Van and then the domino effect.
However, there was an old women standing on the pavement, shining a blue neon light for what ever reason . As we all pulled over, she walked off past the field...
Everyone was fine, police turned up at 8:45am - toes were frozen

Day off work, result :p

How does the insurance process work?

Assuming you had come to a stop (without hitting the car in front) before the accident, you are not at fault. The guy in front will however claim off you, but then you'll claim off the guy behind, who will claim off the guy behind, who will... etc

You should get away excess-free and blame-free, but your insurance premium will likely rise anyway.

Thanks for that. Yes I was stationary. Great Christmas present :(

Made a right mess of that Silver Mercedes, Well done for getting pics & glad you're Ok.

I wonder how fast the Merc was going?

Either way, it did its job of absorbing the impact....

Just out of curiosity, did anybody else stop as a witness? - as per your somewhat fate tempting (with hindsight!) thread....

It was a 40mph road.

No one stopped! They all kind of stared...

However, a yummy mummy with 3 kids in a nice Mercedes offered to help :D

Not how it works - at least not in my experience. Similar thing happened to me, I was stationary, as was car behind. Someone hit the car behind who then hit me. The claim was with the driver who caused the accident in the first place, not the one who actually hit me.

Just got off the phone with Admiral, they said the Mercedes will be at fault and I will not have to pay the excess. It should not affect my no claims and premium.... it better not!

They say that, but you will still need to include the accident in your insurance details which may increase the price slightly.

How would it be insurance fraud when it will all go back to the owner of the merc?

The detail is the questioning of how many people were in the merc. Basically the driver causes the accident and then the passengers claim whiplash etc.. He isnt bothered about his premium/no claims etc as he will get a decent share of the compo payout.

Surely the traditional way would be to be hit rather than hit something, otherwise you might as well hit a wall or a tree, or a parked car without risking other peoples lives?
