Love the red rings :D

Beautiful...I should be at 5 in next few weeks (400mm f2.8L IS II), then 6 by Spring (85mm f1.2L II)

400mm 2.8?!? Lol I'd like to see that.

I still got an itch for the 50L. Think i'll sell my 85/1.8 and 50/1.4 to pay for it.

Yeah will look comical next to my other lens. Will take loads of pictures including unboxing. The box it comes in is massive. The front element is just insane too, 183mm in diameter!

You getting a filter for it? :p (do they even make one?)

I know about the box, it is basically a Canon peli case for the lens....drool..............you can buy those i believe but they are a few hundred pounds, the hoods too are very expensive!

jesus ,how much are the filters for that :D

Haha, don't think you can sadly, it has a drop in 52mm filter just after the lens mount, not on the front. The rubber around the front element is pretty thick if you wanted to rest it face down.

Yeah for the spares, the 400c is £400 or so, and the lens hood another £500! I think it's made out of carbon fibre.

Will probably get a lens cover too, they do seem prone to marking sadly.

The new telephotos are also a nicer shade of white as well, less "yellowy".

Weights around 3.8kg too...

I played with one briefly a few weeks ago, it's a pretty special lens!

I wouldn't know what to do with a 400mm lens....it is a whole new technique of shooting in terms of subject with slightly different gear - tripod and head.

That said....if I could track down a 200/1.8.........................now this is a mythical lens.

Hmmm just ordered myself a Gitzo GT2531EX tripod. Couldn't resist the price of £380! Now to track down a decent ball head for it!

I just ordered a tripod too and resisted the urge to go for something more expensive like the Gitzo ones I was looking at :P

Tis quite sad when you spend your lunch eating a Subway and looking at pics of the tripod you just ordered lol :/

I'm far from a tripod expert but just looking it up I can't see what it offers that my 190proXB can't?

Again I'm not knocking your purchase I just want to understand what it does better and for 3 times the price I need to know what :D

The explorer range of Gitzo tripods has totally independent legs, so each leg can be set at any angle from 0 - 90 degrees. Compared to the 190ProXB the max height without centre column is higher (141cm vs 118.5cm), lowest possible height is lower (3cm vs 8cm), max height is higher (170cm vs 146cm), the centre column can be set at any angle or inverted if required and finally its got a higher maximum load capacity (12kg vs 5kg).

Weight is about the same (1.8kgish for both), but the closed length of the Gitzo is a bit longer (64cm vs 54cm).

Thanks York, I wasn't being funny I was genuinely curious as of yet I've not really had issues I couldn't quickly cover with my tripod where as the head is a different matter :)

Anyway my 100mm L macro has just turned up. Won't bother posting another picture as we have seen quite a few recently :)

To be honest I'm still questioning if I'm sane spending so much on a tripod :p. But I've used too many crap tripods in the past, so for my first own proper tripod (fed up of borrowing other peoples!) decided that I'd spend a bit more and hopefully not get an upgrade itch a few years down the line! :)

Was a close call between the 055CXPRO3 or the GT2531EX. Was almost certainly going to get the Manfrotto until I saw the Gitzo for about £90 less then everyone else was selling it for (and from a reputable UK shop!). Just need to find the ideal head (looking at RRS, Arca Swiss or Feisol I think) and get myself a half decent tripod bag now.
