Are there any Historians here? Which good books or internet resources are there to learn about the history of Scotland to the present day.

I'd like to read up on the wars and conflicts with England any other countries. Also any info on important people and parliament.

They were skirt wearing savages, the English invaded them and gave them some class and manners, in return they wanted to fight and be independant from the UK.

An excellent book that's a good place to start is:

Scotland: a New History by Michael Lynch

A good broad coverage before you narrow down to more in depth subject areas, although written in '92 it's still very much encompassed by modern scholarly ideas of Scottish history
 
Thanks for the video links and internet/book references. I've seen Braveheart, I have no idea if it was fictional or based on true events.

This is funny because English are much tighter than Scots. It's so bizarre to see English people buy their own drink rather than a round or pay for their own meal rather than split the bill evenly.
