Far Cry 3 Thread

how good is this game compared to the 1st or Crysis 1 ?

Depends how you define 'good' Crysis was good but no matter how many times I played it I knew exactly where all the AI would be in each level, in Farcry3 it constantly varies, added to that the plethora of aggressive animals give added interest, particularly if your creeping thru the jungle & a Leopard rips your head off :p:p

Don't trust anywhere else? OcUk will be selling FC3 shortly, awaiting stock.
looks like your not going to be playing Farcry 3 then, Steam has let you down has it not ?

no it's on Steam, i've just seen it.

but i'm not sure if i want it or not, i cant make my mind up

Wonder the odds of Far Cry 3 appearing in the steam sale this month , hmmm.

May just get it from OcUK, I want the box.

thats what im hoping for. plus AC3. can see them being no less than £20 though.

hows the performance in this game now?

take it it doesnt run as good as FC2?

does it look better than FC2?

Tell me about it!

Just as I'm taking my time planning my attack on a base, then slowly moving through taking people out in my methodical way.....a big arse bear comes running through all of a sudden sending a horde of nasty dudes in my direction!

Stupid bears!

That's what sets this game apart though IMO.

Re buying on Steam. Why buy on Steam when you can get it £2 cheaper in your high street store?
Steam is great especially for picking up games in sales but I personally wouldn't pay more than the same game on DVD, well, not at near £30 anyway.

I agree.

I picked this up from simplygames for £19.

why ? because Stream games are very convenient to download, plus they have all the latest patches.

where the hell am i going to get FAR CRY 3 from, because where i live PC games arent sold anymore, the closest place is Christchurch/ Southampton

and when i do travel miles to get this game, i still have to find the latest patches online, plus register it..... no way man this is crazy, the only place is Steam

I hear what you're saying and must admit when I typed that I did wonder 'what if they dont live near a PC game retailing store'. But I'd still want an online price cheaper than the DVD price.

All games auto-patch these days - if not, the developers should be strung up :).

With the DVD you have the added benefit of the package, case, DVD and manual, although manuals are very thin these days. Should you wish to do a restore you just reinstall it from DVD and let it autopatch. With a downloaded game you have to hopefully have a backup that you created to restrore from (taking up HD space or cost of DVD(s)), or if not, you have to download the 10 or so GB install again.

DVD's can (or used to be) able to be resold too once finished although I'm not sure if that's possible these days.

Here's a video I made :)

that was a kill shot right at the end, in R6 that would be you dead straight away and quite right too

but for you to die realistically means that you need to respawn quickly close by, because the last checkpoint in most games is too far back

explosion and fires look very realistic... but vegetation is way too green.

With the retail DVD you have the added benefit of having the extra rubbish to throw away, although manuals are very thin these days they still fill the dustbin up way to quick
Should you wish to do a restore you have to spent hours finding the DVD and let it show up errors from being damaged.
With a downloaded game you can make as many backup DVD's as you want or you can just copy a backup of the game folder to restore from which is no problem nowdays with Huge HDD's being dead cheap
or if not you can just reload download the 10 or so GB again for free within a few hours.
.
I agree :D
