Sister made me promise not to go see it until she gets home.....

Tempted to go see it anyway and then pretend (I'm such a loving and caring brother like that) but the problem is if I hate it I'm not going to want to see it again, particularly the very next night.

Why is life so complicated! :p

Does anyone know when kids break up for Christmas? I fancy catching this one afternoon before the cinemas become rammed with kiddies.

Manchester Printworks show this in HFR IMAX 3D don't they?

I'm a bit miffed that the BFI IMAX is just regular IMAX 3D - they have the equipment for HFR IMAX 3D - their facebook page is full of people complaining about it, so perhaps they'll make a last minute change (probably not). It's sort of ridiculous if you think about it.

Does anyone know if the IMAX screen at Uxbridge is any good? Is it the same size as a normal screen, but with an IMAX projector and sound setup?

EDIT: Screw it. I need to see it in 3D IMAX HFR. This may require a trip to Nottingham :(

Just read the IGN review, and they weren't too impressed. Apparently there is a lot of fake looking CGI and the 48fps detracts from the film. The dwarves seem to have been underdeveloped and just used for comedic value. What a shame.

I think its main problem is going to be matching up to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, by no means a simple challenge. However I watched the trailer for the umpteenth time last night and have to say I'm very excited about seeing it.

The lord of the Rings movies are some of my favourite films of all time with the first one seemingly becoming better with age.

Booked up for an 8pm showing on the 13th, spent the extra £1.25p/s for some VIP seats at the Vue, so no rush to find 5 seats together.

I think there's every chance it will be better, to be honest: LOTR was butchered to get into three four-and-a-half hour extended editions, so havign a book like the Hobbit stretched across two/three films should be AWESOME.

I can't even book tickets for my local Cineworld in Huntingdon. :(

IGN for reviews? Since when do people use IGN as a credible review source?

Review the film for yourself, it's the best way.

A load of places have reviewed, Some like some don't. One even says it's geared towards a younger ordinance....... you know with it being a story written for actual children that doesn't surprise me too much. It's going to get loads of stick because of what it has to follow, But then they don't really have the epic story to fall back on. If you go in knowing the story and not expecting it to blow your socks off I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it, I can't wait.

The only sites that I take notice of for reviews are IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.

One shows it as an above average film with a rating over 9 out of 10 from ~7,000 people. The other as an average 6.6/10 from only 12 reviews.

I'm likely to go with IMDB on this one, so it's a definite watch for me. That and the fact I loved LOTR so would watch it anyway.

Absolutely, I'm going to watch it at BFI IMAX with my wife, but I thought it would garner universal praise after how well TLOTR has done. I shouldn't be too surprised though, as personally I hated the changes made to TLOTR, and Peter Jackson was responsible for them. Changes were of course required, but some of them were just completely unnecessary and ruined the 2nd and 3rd films for me.

I loved TFOTR though, I have seen that about 10 times, and I think that's because the changes there weren't detrimental to the story.

So now all reviews are out it seems 48fps was a woefully bad choice and is causing very negative reaction towards the film, regardless of the 24fps offering most will see; which is said to be fine viewing.

When reviewers overlook the 48fps issue, the film seems to scoring solid 7 to 8/10, good but far from great...

Have decided on 2d normal screen for this

I'm not convinced the story line to be my sort of film

I can't get over the possible yuck feeling I might get from 48 hfr

Would usually go to see films in 3d but again I don't think it's the best film for 3d
