Hello,

Ive recently put an external hard drive inside my server case to improve the cooling on it, the plastic case it came in was overheating th drive thats almost always in use. I still connect the drive to my PC by USB and as such have left the USB power converter part on the drive in the HDD bay inside the case.

However this is a pain in the backside as it meant i have to have the DC power lead run through the hole with the grommet thats in the back of the case for a water cooling pipe. This leaves the wire outside the case a bt short and when i need to move the server i have to unplug it and juggle the cable still attched inside the case.

My question is, do such cables exist that would allow me to connect the 'male' DC plug to the drive, and have a 'Female' plug that can be mounted onto the chassis so the DC adater/pluch can be connected to the drive in a similar fashion to the way your PSU is connected to a power scource.

You could probably pick something up off eBay but you would need to know what size the connectors are as there are several sizes of DC jack and socket.

I would take the drive out of it's enclosure and install within the PC connect with standard SATA connections.

I cant connect it via sata, Windows Home Server 2011 will not let me preform the task i need unless there is a usb storage device attached to the system
