nzbmatrix quits

NZBs aren't torrents. Newsgroups have nothing to do with the torrent network, and aren't even P2P. you can take your 2nd rate sharing software and get out.

Newsgroup fanboys assemble!

If constantly maxing my connection and having everything i could ever want to download readily available is 2nd rate, what exactly do i get for first rate service other than a lighter wallet?

Peace of mind that the police won't knock down your door at 6 in the morning and shoot you in the head with a silenced pistol before making it look like a suicide. p.s. Is that Anna Kendrick in your sig?

Lol yep newsgroups > torrents

This is really bad news I would have thought that newsgroups would have escaped. I use nzb.su mostly so fingers crossed but I'm it hopeful.

I would have thought that was fairly obvious. The cinema companies want their cut of the profit.

It is obvious, but that's my point. Why does it still have to be this way? When was the last time you got a value for money experience at the cinema? Almost all cinema screens are awful quality (at least the few that I've been to). It's an over-priced under-value experience that could be improved.

Why make some countries wait 6 months for a film to be released? Utterly, utterly retarded and positively encourages pirating.

Digital distribution is the way forward. I-tunes and the like have shown the way forward with music. It's too easy to buy a track for not a lot nowadays. Napster (the original) did more for the digital music distribution model than anything else in my opinion. Make it simple and make it reasonable and people will use the service in their droves. Compete.

The problem is there are too many powerful people who are interested in protecting their way of life and over-inflated salaries. It'll take time to change. Lets hope it does or I can't see the ISPs having any reason to sell mega-bandwidth packages anymore.

My son is at university with a strictly monitored 5mb connection. He finds it fine for gaming, skyping, browsing etc. Even Steam games come down fine, if a little slower. Playing them is no different than at home on our 60mb connection.

If all dodgy downloads go away there'll simply be no need for a quick connection any more

And that happens how often? Plus if newsgroup sites are now getting shut down surely that's going down the same path?

Yes.

It wasn't actually shut down, they closed, only a minor difference though. I think the main difference between usenet and torrents is they way you get them. Usenet downloads come from servers, torrents come from people, and sometimes you even give what you got to other people, like Aids. Basically usenet is sex with a johnny, torrents is sex with a johnny but the johnny's got a hole in the end.

If want to stream 1080p I'll want at least 10meg, and more if I'm not the only person in my house. Or if I want to watch a film with dinner I'd expect my internet to download the film while dinner is cooking (from the legit source we're talking about).

Thanks for the reply. You confirmed pretty much what I had thought. So basically they are at the mercy of the government of the country the service resides in!

Is downloading tv episodes that have aired on tv pirating if I own a tv license?

It depends on your source.

Totally legal if it's using iPlayer.

However it's not so clear cut if you source it from an unofficial source.

LOL at the irony of being ripped off by a website you were a member of whose main purpose was to aid the ripping off of copyrighted materials for it's users :p
I guess you could say sites like nzbmatrix and giganews indirectly profit from piracy, as has already mentioned these sites have thinly veiled legit uses.

It's hardly surprising that these sites get taken down, I imagine the ones charging for a premium service will be the first ones to go...

I skip the aids by being the type of user that isn't spoken of kindly :p

Yes.

Biggest difference, newsgroups require only downloading, torrents require you to upload too. More so private torrents, whereby you generally get given the heave ho if your ratio isn't good enough.

If you ever were to get busted, having been a supplier rather than just a consumer gives them an opportunity to bum**** you considerably harder.

Yup, as I've said before no-one needs more than about 20mb

I don't need private torrents, therefore my 0.056 ratio serves me well.

Think I may lay low and see what props up over the next week or so, I need to renew my subscription with Astraweb which went the other day.

I dont mind doing it the old way of manually searching but its a pain to be honest.

I'll just continue to use binsearch, may be a bit more technical to search for what you want, but I like it, nice and minimalistic.
