Duchess of Cambridge's nurse has reportedly been found dead

People with this 20-20 hindsight are really starting to bug me now!

How many pranks have you watched or listened to over the years? How many of those might have ended up differently with a pinch of such misfortune? How many of them have you found funny, but given a similar turn of events may have embarrassed someone (mentally unstable enough) into suicide? How many times have you jumped out from behind a door to shock someone? Should we all stop doing this encase they have an unforeseen heart attack?

So here we have a prank where some DJs phoned up with dodgy accents, not even expecting to get anywhere, but amazingly did... Even so, what harm was intended, or in reality actually done? Some embarrassment for the hospital staff at worse, but which unfortunately (& unbelievably) caused a suicide.

Now here we have people running around with pitch forks seemingly crying out for the blood of the DJs? It's pathetic! No harm was meant, and what harm could possibly have been forecast? Really?

To those people now wishing the DJs to pay in some way, they need to take a reality check. Bad things sometimes happen and no one is to blame. This is such a case.

We cannot be expected to pussy-foot around every potential outcome just because of what might happen, no matter how unimaginably unlikely it might be.

Exactly my take on it, agree with you 100%.

Agree on this bit, although the point i was trying to make is that i dont think getting a sick update on a royal is funny. I get pranks and i love the accent wind up ones.. I just cant get how this is remotly funny lol? To phone a royal up and to prank them regarding something else maybe but to see if shes OK etc etc wheres the humour in that :S. The only thing i blame the DJs for doing is not being funny.

Totally 100% in agreement,

I literally just now, watched the recording on Youtube for the first time - there's no way in a million years that it was anything other than a complete joke..

Prince Charles was even joking about it with the media when it happened, nobody could have predicted that the nurse would have taken it so badly..

You have to be pretty ****** in the head to believe all the blame lies solely with the 2 DJ's.

In reality they're not to blame at all... How could anyone predict such a bizarre outcome? It's a 2 minute silly prank call. Nothing more...

The only real fault I can see is with the procedures at the hospital whereby seemingly anyone can get through and start talking to a receptionist about a public figures condition.

Imagine how easily someone with actual malicious intent could have got through and what information/details they could have got? So thank goodness this has been highlighted by an innocent prank!

If ANY action is taken against the DJ's the world has officially gone mad!

whilst I can see why most are saying what they are saying...putting the nurse on the air breaking her code of conduct...putting her at risk of losing her job shouldnt have been done. that is not on.

Ill put it this way....if the prank had gone into a police station and criminal records spoken about on radio, would that have happened? Kates medical condition is private whilst in hospital and should have been respected. the radio station broadcasted Kates clinical condition to the world with out consent.

The nurses suicide is just bloody unfortunate...but gosh I feel for her, what pressure she must have felt to do what she did.

your wrong though...but OK have the right to air your opinion. not to blame at all? come on...with out the call the incident didn't happen and she is possibly still alive. I cant prove she wasn't going to do it anyway...like you cant prove that this didn't cause her to commit suicide.

So are you saying that intention has nothing to do with guilt?

EDIT: Actually, I take your point to an extent, as you've said "to blame at all". As you've said, the call was probably contributory to the suicide, and there is therefore a causal link. This shouldn't be conflated with guilt though.

Yes, that's a fair point.

Still don't understand how a person can just phone up and be accepted as the Queen, no questions asked though? Surely there should be a password or verification procedure?

Well, there clearly wasn't.

Slighty off topic, I had no idea the OCUK forums had so many psychiatrists. So many members are a professional at everything it seems.

I have to say, while the prank was idiotic, it was just that, a (should have been) harmless prank.

The death is being described as an 'honour suicide' is it not... which kind of says it all...

The nurse must have been a mental wreck before this happened, and this could have pushed her over the edge. It's very unfortunate but the press are as much to blame as the DJ's who pulled the 'prank', due to their massively over the top reporting on the incident.

It's also quite possible that this may have happened anyway, prank or no prank.

I don't support the vilification of the DJ's, they are somewhat foolish, but ultimately they didn't do an awful lot wrong.

Ignoring the fact that she committed suicide, which in itself is a complete and utter tragedy in this story, I still think that any prank call which can easily result in the loss of someone's job is an utter disgrace. There was always a chance that the person would put the call through and the Duchess's medical state discussed, and as previously mentioned this would put that persons job at risk. They should have known this, and shouldn't have done the prank. It shows a complete disregard for that person.
