RIP Patrick Moore

Remembered fondly for Sky at Night and The Gamesmaster, enjoyed both, especially Sky at Night for is great enthusiasm.

R.I.P. Sir

I'll only reply to you once.

You've now posted a number of times in a thread about the death an individual who was pretty much universally appreciated and looked fondly upon. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone saying anything other than positive things about the man. Within this thread people are sharing grief and pleasantries about the man.

In you come, (a) with a single (unnecessary) comment suggesting his TV show is not only boring, but that his funeral will be more fun? (b) not make a single comment more befitting this thread. ie: A pleasant word about the individual in question.

But carry on arguing your corner and harking on about yourself in a thread commemorating the life of someone. You've clearly got your priorities right.

And who are you and what gives you the right to pass judgement on anything I've said, this has gone way beyond the single line comment that I originally posted.

Priorities?? Well maybe I have got them right because I usually keep my true grief to my loved ones closest family and friends, I'm not about to jump on a twitter feed etc to say how torn to pieces I am over ....again said it before someone I never knew which happens to be a renowned astronomer or whatever he was, his family I wish the best for but I'm sorry... No no I'm not.... to say last night I slept great and I recon tonight will go just as we'll.

The comment in my original post has got so strewn way out of proportion, I'm not about to de-rail this thread but it seems its being done regardless of what I say anyway.

People jumping on this fashionable fake public grief need to look closer to home, these are the same people who probably have elderly relatives making the daily choice between heating their homes or eating... Perhaps some of this grief could better well spent closer to home.

It's easy to say rip just to fit in, you try and say it when it's staring you in the face.... Husband wife child pet etc.

Oh shut up for god sake.

Whatever....you have made your point whatever that may be, why don't you simply quit it now, it appears that the vast majority of others posting in this thread didn't appreciate or want your contribution, but it is here anyway...there is no reason to belabour the issue any further unless you are doing it just to garner a reaction, in which case the criticism you have received is justified despite your protestations otherwise.

Time to move along now, don't you agree?

Just heard about this today, really said to hear.

All these vastly important people passing away recently and not being replaced by people of equal value. The world really is becoming grimmer.

Oh I'm well and truly over it, I'm not the one that keeps dragging it thru the mud...

Mods delete away and for all I care, my conscience is clear and considering I'm not the one that hit the destruct button on all this I could honesty care less.....

Playing Devil's advocate here: Elrein had as much right as any of you to post what s/he thought. Like it or not.

True, but it was in rather bad taste to post those views in a thread which basically commemorates his life and celebrates his achievements.

By the way, if anyone sees any sort of tribute listed (eg: on the BBC), can they let me/us know please on this thread?

I suspect the next Sky At Night will be turned over to such a task though!

** quote removed **

You are the one not ignoring him mate. And I'm not supporting him, I don't even agree with what he said. Just stating that everyone has the right to say what they think. Wrong or right.

Don't get drawn in by it. Report the post in question. Let the mods deal with.

RIP. He had a good innings though. I recall watching him in his heyday when he seemed to be on every variety show going as well as a guest on many of the top shows at the time back then such as Morecambe and Wise.

RIP Sir Patrick, an inspiration to millions around the world.

The sky at night wont be the same without him.

He dedicated a large portion of his life towards the public understanding of science and getting people interested in the stars and inspiring them with his eccentric, warm and informative ways. However I also think that its important to remember people for who they were including all their flaws and not some romanticized perfect version of the person. I think its disrespectful to the person who has died. So lets not forget he was also abit of a racist , homophobic and sexist. But maybe we can just put that down to the Generation he was from.
