This may well be a stupid question but my electric oven is broken (the gas hobs etc still work) call an electrician or someone else?

Yes I'm stupid :p

Hang on - have you checked the socket for the electric oven - there's usually a big red switch nearby.

It usually has the word 'OVEN' on or around it.

The top mini oven works, the main bottom one doesn't so guessing its BROKEN

Could be the element, I know repair places will test them for you if you take it to them, then you can buy a new one if it is.

It's almost certainly just the heating element which has blown. The part will probably cost no more than £10, so you can save a lot if you're prepared to undo a couple of screws at the back of the oven to expose the element and change it yourself (after turning off the power obviously...).

If you've got nothing to do for a day, have a good range of spares, you don't mind getting stinking, don't mind heavy lifting, have a good set of screwdrivers, have a good range of allen keys, are a student with little or no money or are a tight-wad then Selekt0r's post is a good one.

Doesn't work in what way, is it a fan over, can you hear the fan, or is there just no heat?

Can't hear the fan, the light doesn't come on and no heat. All over done in!

Also, sorry for the swearie Rotty! Must have auto corrected my word to a naughty word!

If the oven isnt getting hot.

Buy a new element for £15 or so.
turn the mains off.
get a screw driver and unscrew the 2 screws securing the back panel.
unplug the wire from the element and be careful the wire doesnt disapear down the back.
fit new element.
plug the wire onto it.
put the back panel in place again.
turn the mains back on.
