Census 2011: fewer than half of people living in London are white

London:

White British: 44.9%
White Irish: 2.2%
White Gypsy/Traveller: 0.1%
White Other: 12.6%

So 59.8% white total

Which tips it unsurprisingly in the other direction. I don't see how anything close to 50/50 (using a very broad brush white / non white) is a bad thing really, why is it such an issue to some?

As said above anything measured in London has no real bearing on the rest of the UK anyway

Well nothing yet i guess, but for a country to have its own native population in their capital city to be the minority shows a massive change and possible future historical change in the British culture, well what's left of it.

You don't really know much about Britain and its cultrue then do you? The foundations of Britain are built on multiculturalism, British culture is a mishmash of different cultures, English as a language itself is too.

All the massive shipping ports around the country are "responsible" for the multiculturalism. Things like (I'm pretty sure of anyway) that places like Liverpool have the oldest Chinese communities outside of China due to the shipping trades.

Time we were colour blind in this country to be honest.

I don't think if I offered bacon sarnies to the Jews or the Muslims they'd be too happy about that... Colour blind is the wrong phrase, personally I think it is important to notice 'colour' (or lack of), because with it often comes a different cultural heritage, which is important to have some understanding of. I think just to ignore colour is to ignore culture and that's ignorant in my eyes.

You can be Jewish or Muslim whatever your skin colour...and if you offered a bacon sandwich to either or anyone they could simply say 'no Thankyou, I am a Jew/Muslim/not hungry/Vegetarian/don't like bacon/have a gluten intolerance/on a diet....and so on.

Being 'colour blind' isn't about ignoring a person, their heritage or their culture, it is simply about not ascribing undue importance just to the colour of their skin and certainly not making assumptions based purely on their skin colour like you seem to be suggesting.

It's not ignorant, it is simply treating everyone on the same basic level without assumption or prejudice.

My sentiments exactly.

Hear hear, it's a shame you can't always be like this unprattish all the time. This is like the only thing in the whole universe we agree on..

;)

We agree on lots of things, you just can't see it through your fog of nationalism, which is really the only place we disagree consistently...;)

How's Mr Salmond's favourite European Mr Barroso btw? :p

How come there is such a fuss over the dwindling british red squirrels yet nobody is worried about our dwindling supply of precious white-british people??
