gigabyte wf3 appreciation society thoughts, issues, and overclocks!

Overall i'm pleased with my WF 7970s (not Voltage locked).

But I can't get them to run with any decent amount of usage in BF3.

They run at 50-70%

I still haven't got to the bottom of the issue, I think it's an issue with the game.

I found this in game when I had just not given the card enough volts would still play and not crash but wouldn't be smooth had to up the volts a little and it seemed to cure it.

perfect that worked great 1.225 v might try to lower voltage as i just put it up from 1.2v or shall i leave it ?, thought games would crash if not enough volts ?, game runs smooth now, what settings you running the game at ?

If you're gaming on a single screen it's a CPU bottleneck and a game engine issue combined. It can't utilise all that GPU power when the requirements for it aren't there.

The game becomes quite CPU limited when you have two high end cards on a single screen.

:)

A hex core SB-E chip helps a tiny bit but it's more down to the game engine that makes it bottlenecked.

Ive got mine set to 1100/1375 with 1.125V for 24/7 use and playing Farcry 3 my temps are about 63 to 65C.

Very happy with the card so far.

I'm not actually playing far cry 3 at the moment but I just noticed it with other games tries it and it eliminated the problem.
If your temps are fine personally I wouldn't worry about it there acceptable volts and as long as the card is running cool enough I wouldn't worry but it's upto you you will just have to spend time fine tuning if you wish to do that.

Yes it is :) i believe 8x is fine, all mine are 16x so i can't test that but as far as i know AMD run in 8x mode anyway.

All you can do is try it.

just checked my motherboard book and its a x4 so wont be using it as i believe it refers to the datad transfer speed my temps are fine anyway.

gonna move the hdd though i think tonight:D edit: tried but sadly the drive above are too big so will need to buy a adapter to get my hdd to fit maybe one day,i did turn my other fan on though thats in front of the gpu so should get lower temps but case is now louder as it runs at full whack.

if anyone has any useful tips or info post it in here and i will deit it into the first post so people can use it for info or rough guides.:D

Hi, yes will do. temps are idle 24c , load when played far cry 3 for 40mins was 64c so looks good,

also with MSI afterburner , i have it to auto load when windows starts, i can see it auto loads, i have clicked apply overclocked on startup,

but when i look at GPUZ its on 900mhz ?? but if i close and open MSI launcher again then displays 1150 mhz ? would love it just to be already when starting windows,

Thanks

it should auto oc it for you have you tried just going into game and seeing if the clocks ramp up or? if not i suggest you do that.

Mine does the same. Afterburner starts at startup but doesn't apply the overclock automaticly even though the "apply overclocking at system startup" is on.

Starting a game doesn't make it apply the overclock either, I have to chose a profile and click apply for it to work.

hmmm just been playing metro 2033 for about 30 mins(everything on maxuimum) temps on core where 62-63c then boom grey screen with light grey lines down my screen is this a memory issue on the gpu? checked vrm temps max hit was 73c.

is this a sighn to back down the memory? im on 1550 or add more volts to mem.

1550 is a bit higher than i'd want to be running it day to day personally.

Back down and play again, if this issue reoccurs then something else is causing it.

I Dont think i be oc my wf3 much when it comes friday.

i can see why they lock the cards volts sooner or later to safe guard from cooking
the chips , I wonder how many wf3 cards been Damaged or dead in the world by OC the volts to much .

if we dont hear from Chris-82 Again - hes having Hes cooked Dinner Early!

What clocks would you advise 24/7? I'm currently running 1150/1500 @1.23v 63c underload vrm's 65c,73c temps taken from gpuz log.

Tbh Darren 73c on the vrm's really isn't that hot they are rated for over 100c! Plus added to that metro with everything on maximum is a very gpu demanding game (looks pretty too!) so any slightly non stable clocks will be shown up I dropped it down to 1500 and played for hours fine after that.

Someone on here runs 1250/1800 24/7!! Can't say I would push my card that hard not that it would get upto 1800 I suspect lol.
