Visiting Amsterdam

Is there more to the city, than just the red light zone and wacky?

Some good steakhouses, decent shopping if you take the issus, heineken brewery tours decent, nice walks by the canals etc etc

But, it's mainly hookers, booze and wacky.

Will be going in April as A State of Trance 600 will be on ... so I'm interested in this also as the missus will be coming.

She keeps saying it's just full of prostitutes so at least now I can give her the bigger picture :p

I went years ago with no interest in smoking. Had a good time looking at all the exhibitions and museums.

Went there this year.. Its a nice place and its only full of hookers if you go down the hooker roads.

If your going in April.. Try and get your dates to fall over Queens Day. The whole of Amsterdam have a masssssssssssssssive party and its just amazing!

Which in particular?

Went to the Rijksmuseum (you won't miss it), Van Gogh and Anne Frank's house. You could spend a day in the Rijksmuseum, it's huge.

I also went to watch England vs Holland at the Amsterdam Arena (Ajax stadium) which was cool.

Found a good deal for Amsterdam next month - flights, hotel and food all in. £100 for the week.

Not the sort of place I'd want to visit for a week, depends what you're going for I suppose, but 3 days there and any longer I would have been bored. 3 days was bang on

I want to go to Amsterdam. Nearest I've been is a transfer at Schiphol lol. I'm even more up for now they have banned the green stuff for foreigners. Less drug tourists.

I hadn't seen that. That was really recent, it got banned sometime ago. Holland did ban it and looks like it is banned in most places there. The ban was voluntary and Amsterdam chose not to recently. Hmm, not going to make it a priority to go just yet then. Can see it being fully banned eventually. Technically it is illegal over there but the police tend to look the otherway unless you are doing something to get there attention (like breaking other laws).

Hell, its legal there, you may as well blaze AND do all those things. :P

It is not legal. The police just look the other way unless you are doing something that gets their attention like breaking other laws or being an idiot.
