I'm looking to get myself a new monitor as a Christmas present, I currently have a Samsung 226BW which has done me well for the last 5 years or so. I just feel like getting a higher res bigger screen.

First question is, will I notice much improvement over the 226bw? It was definitely the one to go for at it's size and price back in the day, has there been much improvement in image quality since?

Second question, I've pretty much narrowed my choice (though still open to suggestions) to either the Dell U2412M (£221) or the BenQ GL2450 (£115). Now there is quite a price difference in the two of them so what I want to know is whether or not the Dell is worth the extra £106, almost double the price of the BenQ. What differences will there be? I can afford to get the Dell if I'm convinced it is worth the extra cost. I do like the idea of 16:10 aspect ratio over the 16:9 of the BenQ already but that's not quite enough to make me spend the extra money on it.

Third question, are there any other options you guys would recommend? I'm tempted by the 27" version of the BenQ as well but really not sure if I need a monitor that big, I don't sit miles away from the screen as it is, it might be useful for watching TV/films on it but that's not too important. I'm also worried at the dpi getting too low with just the 1080p spread across a 27 inch screen.

Thanks for any input :)

I got the exact same monitor as you.I'm looking at 24 inchers but waiting for the new dell's coming in 2013.

need Hdmi support so i can hook the ps3 up aswell.

I had the Samsung 226BW went onto a Samsung BX2450 2 years ago, Not a major leap in picture quality back then but today maybe more noticeable also not a big difference in size to be honest.

Next one for me will be a 27" for sure

PS: I've still got the 226BW all wrapped up in its original box as a spare if something should happen to my current one

To be honest I'm not sure I want to upgrade, I love my 226, I still think it looks nicer aesthetically than any monitor I've looked at on the market now. Though I do like the idea of a nice bump in picture quality and better backlight evenness, that's one thing I noticed about the 226 is that I get some definite brighter spots around the bottom.

Not sure if I have room for a 27 inch monitor, would love to go with the current deal on the dell 27 inch model that's been mentioned in the other thread but not sure if I can stump up £380!

What I would love to hear is someone that's gone from the 226BW or similar to the new set of Dell IPS panels just to hear how the find the difference in picture quality and any noticeable difference in ghosting.
