Which 7950?

My point was the IceQ and the Gigabyte WF3 7950's are probably the two best cards to buy just now. I was trying to show how the two different style coolers both end up with pretty much the same temps, though I think the WF3 is quieter, and I keep seeing posts from the same guys saying, 'the IceQ has superior cooling' but I dont see that when you post your temps. And I was trying to say all this with a bit of humour thrown in. :D

They are fairly similar, the main difference is that the WF don't have VRM cooling, and the latest batch of WF seem to be voltage locked.

IceQs are better in most regards, £20 cheaper, VRM cooling, voltage unlocked.

The only disadvantages would be the IceQ's size, and two year warranty compared to the WF's three years.

Sorry to somewhat hijack the thread, but seen as it's come up...

I've already got a Gigabyte WF3 7950, tempted to get another... lol  £430ish for ultimate power! after selling a set of games! lol

Would I run into heat issues crossfiring Gigabyte WF3 7950's pumped upto 1200+ on the cores?

Note: Using HAF X case, also Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 - better than most PCIE spacing?

You'd be better off pairing it with an IceQ to be honest. Card 1 will likely to run into heat issues as it draws in card 2's hot air.

I ran two MSI cards in Crossfire in a HAF X for a while and even considering they were both of the faulty batch, card one struggled.

Your board is perfect, first pciex 16x slot and the 3rd pciex slot on your board is the perfect none blower type crossfire locations for your cards. ;)

OUT THE BACK AIR COOLERS ARE FAR FAR FAR superior .

I would tend to agree with those sentiments. I have a Prodigy case that I'm about to build and the side panel has mesh air vent for the graphics card. A simple side-suck-in|blow-out-back solution would be best rather than dissipating heat into the case. I'll try not to think of any innuendo in that previous sentence!

Are you guys at the wind up by any chance? Once again you mention vrm cooling, yet to see vrm temps posted for the IceQ to prove they are superior. If the WF3 has no vrm cooling what is keeping my vrms at 73\74c with a 1250 OC looping Heaven then. Once again you say the WF3 is voltage locked when I already informed you it wasn't. You guys are winding me up aren't you.:p

Both good cards cant really go wrong with neither tbh and they are the two best cards to get atm...If you got a proper working msi TF3 then i'd say that is the best out of the lot but at this moment in time it has to be the iceq/wf3

Potential cooling, it might matter to some, regardless though it could lead to greater longevity of the cards.

Are you saying it does have VRM cooling?

I didn't say yours is locked, the newer ones are locked though, so the model you have being unlocked is irrelevant if it's not available for others to buy.

wf3 and msi tf3 both have a 3 year warranty, and we all know how great gigabyte rma is

only the gigabyte 7970 cards are voltage locked, not the 7950's

So no proof the IceQ has superior vrm cooling then.

No. I believe you said the WF3 has no vrm cooling, I asked you what was keeping my vrms at 73\74c at max OC if ,as you say, they have no cooling.

We had this discussion in a previous thread where it was pointed out to you by me and one or two others that the WF3 7970 IS voltage locked and the WF3 7950 IS NOT voltage locked. I even pointed out that my card is the same as the one currently being sold on this site by Ocuk.

See the two posts above this one. ;)
