Farcry 3 poor performance - 6950 2gb

Heya guys, when I'm in land on FC3 I get 45-60fps maxed out on a MSI TFIII 6950 2gb oc @ 880/1325. The moment I go near any water though it drops to between 10-15fps. Turning down shadows and water detail make about 5-10fps difference (Still too choppy to be playable).

Temps are never above 65c, utilising 100% of the gpu core but only between 700-1.1gb vram.

Is this game simply too much for my single card to run? Would I benefit more from upgrading to a 7970 or a second 6950 to xfire?

My rig:
i5 2500k @ 4.2ghz 1.28v (used to get 4.5ghz @ 1.28 before replacing the mobo with the exact same model after RMA, won't even handle 4.4 @ 1.3 but this is best saved for another thread.)
msi p67a-g45 motherboard
msi TFIII 6950 2gb @ 880/1325
8gb kingston hyperx grey @ 1600mhz
samsung 830 128gb SSD
WD Blue 500gb internal storage
WD caviar 1tb external storage
Zalman/nzxt (Can't remember off the top of my head) 500w semi-modular

Cheers for reading guys :)

Turn MSAA off, it really kills the frames.
Single 7970 "maxed" i'm getting 40ish fps.

CF is bugged, at least on the 79xx series. I cant get it to play with any mixture of settings without it being unplayable due to horrendous microstutter.

I meant crossfiring my 6950 vs a single 7970 across all games, fc3 is new so I assume AMD haven't released the required driver / cap / whatever for it yet :)

A single 7970 when clocked to a reasonable level will surpass CF6950s.
So upgrading to a 7970 would be the better choice, and yes, to answer your earlier question - this game when turned up to 11 is too much for the 6950.

Get the same, from what I understand its the game that is broken not drivers :(

DX11 & MSAA are completely fudged for CF.

It's DX11 that's borked, needs a patch or something.

Turn DX9 on all other settings to maxium and enjoy the game, you really are hard pressed to notice any difference in graphics between DX9 - DX11 but the game runs so much better on DX9.

Just for an example.. Can max Far Cry 3 with single HD 7850 2GB and Pentium G840 (Dual core CPU) @ DX9 all other setting @ Ultra..

Obviously it flies on my main PC, 3930K and Crossfire 7970's @ 1440P.

I've been playing it with a single card on medium.
Still looks good and i'm at a near constant 120fps, no stuttering so i'm happy. As soon as i turn MSAA on, loads of stutter and <40fps (single card, so not microstutter)

I get 30-40fps with my 6950 2gb, Rest of system is sig
