Metro 2033... yikes!

I just started playing this and it's been fine up until the "Khan" level. I must have gone through this level about 25 times now, I've killed plenty of dudes and am at the checkpoint where I'm coming out of the hole in the floor... I manage to kill about another 4 people but then something always goes wrong.

Any tips? I'm playing on Normal and have been using throwing knives for the stealth option. Is it just me or is this level insanely frustrating? I don't seem to be able to make it to the next checkpoint.

Lower game difficulty under options and then put it back to normal, this game is very frustrating in few parts.

dont go stealth, I dont think this game works well with that option to be honest - you want to just stack up on ammo and kill everything. there is no way you can do the later levels stealth anyway I swear.

I'm replaying the game and I am also at exactly the same part. it's extremely frustrating, fortunately as you move down the tunnel there a checkpoint where it auto saves. I managed to kill a few while on the stairs and used dynamite on the vehicle. I'm now stuck (autosave) in the centre of the tunnel with no ammo, haha.

I wanted to do stealth (like the previous part on the bridge) but that seems impossible here.

Really frustrating level, the game has been good up until now.

OK, you come out of the hole and stealthy go towards the power generator (large machine) and you'll see stairs and a switchboard. You can close the switchboard and all power but will likely have to kill at least two of them before you go up the stairs. Once up it auto saves.

This is where the hard part begins, there's lots of soldiers on both sides once you come up the stairs, you just have to kill as many as possible. If they throw dynamite you will die instantly so try to stay near the staircase and shoot a few while staying in cover. Throw dynamite near the entrance and to the left but once you come out do not go left as there are too many there.

You need to go right, but there's a armoured vehicle paroling. use dynamite (timed) to destroy it then continue right. there might be a couple of soldiers ahead, otherwise there's stars leading down from the right. There's a few soldiers down there with eagle vision. That's where I'm at.

If it's the level where you fall on the train tracks in the cut-scene, then I just killed them all up until a certain point, but you can go down to the bottom of that area and run along the floor, but be careful of trip wire if you go that way.

Also, when you get to the part with the buggy going up and down the train tracks, just hide in the gaps in the wall and move along until you see a ladder on the right, climb to the top and run along the railings and drop down and go through the tunnel, kill the guy or two there and you're done.

Edit: I didn't think it was hard and i played it on Ranger Hardcore.

Kill bloke down the hall directly in front, sneak to the glowing switch on the wall on the left (don't know what the hell this does!), go to the right behind the cage, kill the bloke on the high walk, then the guy who walks towards you through the arch. Wait a bit and the bloke by the doorway with the light moves back to where the hole in the floor is - kill him.

Head back to the room with the glowing switch then right behind the cage, head down the hall on the right right where the electrified floor is, kill the bloke across the way and leg it over, shut off the lamp. Kill the bloke on the high walk and the guy sat by the fire. Head back up to the room with the switch, sneak around right and quickly headshot the two guys by the sandbags.

At this stage I always **** up one of the latter parts and end up getting dynamited. :/ I'll try some of those suggestions though, I don't remember any stairs at the moment.

I think I know where you are, I'm sure that part is earlier. In fact that's before you meet Khan? well not sure, anyway.

I've just checked and I'm stuck on 'Khan' too. Are you talking about the part where you come out of the tunnel and drop into a tube station type place?

Aye I'm at the hallway where there's a guy by a fire. On the left is a long tunnel with a load of crates and a junkie hiding in amongst them.

I stealthed that whole part so it can be done. Took quite a few attempts though. Throwing knives are what you need. Hitting anywhere from behind with one is an instant kill.

Well I've found that isn't always the case to be honest. Hitting them in the back doesn't always cause a kill, but if you hit them in the neck or head, it is. You have to be careful though, sometimes the knives bounce off their heads if they are wearing a helmet or similar. Not always immediately apparent in the dark.

A few more tries and I think I'll be in full-on rage mode.

Throwing knives are what you need.

The Hellsing is far better and you can pick one up from the very end of Dead City 2 as well, it makes the entire section of the game until you get to Polis infinitely easier.

As has been said stealth is very possible, it's what I do when I play through that section, it just requires patience and knowing where all the enemies are.

The only hard part is the group of 3 sitting around a table. Either completely ignore them or leave them till last and lob a grenade at them.

The way I do it is this, start in the tunnel you come drop down in, head up and a sequence will start which ends with an enemy running down the way you came, hide behind some boxes and kill him as he runs.

Next head back down the middle tunnel away from the rat race guys and head to the opposite side of the station from where you came in, there is a guy sitting down, easy kill.

Next get on to the tracks and go under the 3 guys talking. you will come out in the middle of the station with 2 guys talking by a door, simply wait for them to stop talking and then slowly move towards the guy in front of you, he will die automatically. After this hit the switch on your left and continue past the dead guy, turn left avoiding the trap and take down the guy the first guy we killed was talking to, he's sitting on a sofa.

Next take out the guy who was talking to the guy who gets killed automatically, he will usually be in an alcove opposite the guy on the sofa you just killed, if he's not there just wait for him to be. Finally kill the two guys in the center racing rats, this is a lot easier than in sounds, just take out one then the other quickly and they won't be alerted.

Finally there is a guy above the door next to the rat race pen, he's behind the bright light so he can be hard to spot. Once he's dead head up he ladder. There is a guy outside the little box room you end up in, just listen and wait for him to pass the door then knife/Hellsing him in the back.

Now you are past the hard part, you can either continue stealth or go guns blazing from the little walkway you are on, you have lots of cover and there are only about 5 bad guys. Alternatively just continue stealth killing however this section is much more difficult to stealth without the Hellsing.

In that case the best method is to ignore everyone you can and just do the first part I mentioned, once you get past the switch by the auto-killed guy, go through the boxes and you will come out by a dude sleeping, kill him and then another guy on a walkway to your left, you should either be able to sneak or just run to the exit.

The reason I always neutralise everyone in the area is that on ranger Hardcore there is a lot of Ammo/Stuff to pick up compared to other locations.

I've never actually tried stealthing the level without the Hellsing, however my method probably wouldn't work without it as it got unlimited ammo (mostly) and can 1 hit kill at range completely silently.

Ahhh ok, I must get me one of those Hellsings then as I prefer Stealth.

I was trying to neutralise everyone as I was thinking that at some point I'm likely going to have to have a gunfight. Less enemies the better!

Different guy, if you get through the boxes you will come out by a guy who is actually lying asleep on the floor. He can also be auto-killed but from experience I've found it better to take him out from a distance.

The Hellsing is in Dead City 1 after you and Bourbon get split up and just after you come across a Demon chowing down on some guys corpse, it's a bit awkward to get to so you are best off checking the wiki for that.
