Right my mate needs a pc for his mum :D Its got to be under £300 but have a speedy performance.

I've decided to go with AMD Trinity as its onboard GPU will do.

Can anyone improve this? No OS needed.

so quick answer is no, could knock it down to 4gb but wouldn't really save you that much

Thats what I thought aswell :D His mum can play games on low with this setup... not bad

Managed to shave a few quid more off to bring you a slightly cheaper spec than RJC's, could be even cheaper if you went for a 320GB 2.5" drive but they are a bit slower overall.

FM2 wants fast RAM for the IGP. 1TB of storage if she wants to add an SSD later then that will seriously speed the rig up

A couple of changes to accommodate the new TWO offers, cheaper HDD, PSU (still a reasonable brand) but much dearer ram and optical drive but overall still a really nice machine for the budget.

changed case to allow for full ATX motherboard. (saving a a couple of quid on the board to outweigh the extra on the case :) )

The mobo doesnt do sataIII and the PSU is naff, not even bronze rated for efficiency.

just out of interest, if i was to build a PC like the £220 specs that you guys have been suggesting, and added a 7850 for £150, what kind of gaming performance would i get?
would i be able to play modern games at 1080p? (dirt3, skyrim, etc.)

It is a spec for a £224 PC what do you expect.
sataIII is irrelevant for mechanical HDD, OK yes the PSU isn't particularly good but again it is a £234 PC and at least the PSU is from a reputable company.

In short no.

The CPU isn't really much good for anything other than basic windows tasks. maybe OK for a bit of browser based gaming.

Something like that would be gaming capable. Add a second hand 1GB 460 or a 6850 for £50ish later on and you are laughing.

This mobo has a 3 year uk based warranty from gigabyte. It has sataIII so if you want to add a small SSD later for lightning fast boot times you can use the faster sataIII ones. The mobo can also overclock the AMD APU which improves the graphics performance and also has a HDMI output
